West Side Family Place Since 1973 WSFP has provided a welcoming gathering place for parents, caregivers and children in the community to meet, learn, and grow together.

We would like to acknowledge that we at West Side Family Place are growing and learning as a community on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, in this place commonly known as Vancouver, BC. As guests, we honour the land, water, animals, and the continued efforts of the Indigenous people working to protect them.

West Side Family Place will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We honour Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, and remember the lasting impact of colonial systems. WSFP is committed to deepening our understanding and working towards allyship and dismantling systems in our journey toward reconciliation because Every Child Matters.

This year, our reflections and unlearnings are guided by the sharings of Dr. Dustin Louie, Elder Norm Leech, Denise Johnson, Josiah Amaya, Stephanie Wright, and Rita Point Kompst.

We invite our community to take the time to learn more about Indigenous history, honour survivors, and engage in meaningful steps toward reconciliation.

*Grandview Park: National Truth and Reconciliation Day event - Honour Walk, Cultural and Contemporary Performances and Indigenous Market (11:30 am)

*The UBC Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre - 2026 Intergenerational March to Commemorate Orange Shirt Day (11:45 am)

*First Nation House of Learning (UBC): National Day of Truth and Reconciliation Sacred Fire Ceremony (7 am to 6 pm)

*Carnegie Community Centre: Gathering Together - A Community Event for Reconciliation, Orange Shirt Day (1 pm)

*Truth and Reconciliation Pop Up Market Hosted by Sisters Sage (10 am to 7 pm)

*Visit and Support Massy Books, Iron Dog Books, goodminds.com (online bookstore) and your local VPL

📌Advocating for Inclusive Education
​Join us for an inspiring session with Itzia, a parent advocate who has spent years successfully advocating for her child’s inclusive education in mainstream classrooms.

​Drawing from her deep lived experience, Itzia will share practical insights, strategies, and lessons learned while navigating the school system to ensure children get the support and inclusion they deserve.

📌Connect Kids Club:
Offering children opportunities to build friendships, confidence, and social connection through engaging and supportive group activities. During both sessions, children participate in a combination of free play and structured group activities facilitated by qualified support team.

Activities are guided by children’s interests and may include crafts, cooking, music, cooperative games, STEM projects and occasional community outings.

WSFP asks all our participants of our programs to become members or renew your membership of $65 per year.

Membership fees are a much-needed part of our annual revenue and help fund our essential community programs. (Membership runs for one year from the date of payment)

Other membership benefits include:

● Member newsletter with upcoming events and programs
● Opportunity to take on the rewarding role of sitting on our Board of Directors
● Have your say and vote at our Annual General Meeting
● Reduced Birthday Party Rental Rates
