If you are a licensed gas contractor in BC, staying current with gas codes, safety requirements, and regulatory updates is essential.

This incident is a reminder of why careful attention to installation requirements matters. A direct vent termination on a free-standing gas fireplace was installed incorrectly, causing harmful combustion gases to flow back into the fireplace instead of venting safely outside. This resulted in dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide entering the living space, leading two short-term vacation renters staying at the property to seek medical attention for suspected carbon monoxide exposure.

Staying informed and following current requirements and manufacturer instructions can help reduce risk, prevent incidents, and protect both public safety and your business reputation.
