Five years ago, just weeks after her final hospitalization, Sierra lost a close friend to an eating disorder. "I saw her for coffee shortly before she passed away," Sierra recalls. "She was a beautiful human - full of energy, passion, and life." The loss still stays with her. "Sometimes I still find myself thinking - why her, and not me?"
Sierra's own journey with an eating disorder spanned nearly a decade. Her eating disorder had taken everything - her joy, connection to others, even her sense of self. Looking back, she is clear about one thing: "Looking Glass is a place that started my recovery. Had I not found this organization, I don't know where I would be."
At a time when she didn't know what help would look like, Looking Glass felt different. "It was the first place that felt safe. I felt very supported." What stood out the most was the patience she was given. "I didn't feel like I was being rushed on my healing journey."
Now, Sierra comes from a place of gratitude and hope. "I'm here," she says, "embracing all of my humanness." Her story is a powerful reminder that recovery is not linear, but with access, compassion, and sustained support, it is possible.
