Nikkei Vancouver for Justice endorse a rally in support of Migrants under attack by its colonial government.

Date: Sunday 20th September
Time: 11 am - 3 pm
Location: the Northwest side of South Memorial Park; 955 Ross St, Vancouver, BC V5W 1T7

Migrants grow food, build homes, care for children and elders, and keep communities running. Migrants ARE our communities, our neighbours, our friends, our families, and our fellow union members. Canada has built a society on extracting wealth and labour from migrants, dangling broken promises of pathways to permanent residence. In the face of rising xenophobia, the federal government is trying to cash out and push out. They are allowing permits to expire, while closing off permanent resident pathways, increasing deportations and attacking refugees. These attacks demand a response of solidarity and resistance. We are inviting our communities to come out in force and demonstrate to migrants that we will fight for status for all and for a society with equal rights and access to the services that we all need to thrive.

BC groups in the Migrant Rights Network invite you for a rally and gathering at South Memorial Park. There will be piñatas, BBQ and we hope for an opportunity to build much-needed connections and communities of resistance.

Commemorative Rally Marking 81st Anniversary of Japan’s Defeat in Asia-Pacific War

August 15th is the 81st anniversary of Japan’s defeat in the Asia-Pacific War of aggression by Imperial Japan, and many Japanese politicians will visit Yasukuni Shrine, a propaganda site of Emperor system, so on that day, we invite you all to the rally at the Robson Square to oppose imperialist war of aggression. Because Japan is imperialist aggressor that now further strengthens its military alliance with under the US nuclear umbrella and planning to have a largest military exercise called "Exercise Resolute Dragon" this September and also advocating militarization itself in East Asia and Okinawa. Furthermore, invests "Israel" and is planning to buy military drones from Zinonist entity, which is no surprise that same country who imprisoned a freedom fighter Fusako Shigenobu.

We demands: No imperialist war of aggression, End the Emperor system, and stop genocide and liberation for Palestinian people.

Thank you all who stop by our booth at Powell Street Festival for 2 chaotic days, and would like to send our appreciation to all the volunteers.

This time, we share table with another Nikkei group, Japanese Canadians for Social Justice in so-called "Toronto" as well.

We had engaging conversations with hundreds of attendees who were interested to learn about us, and our campaigns to stop Mitsubishi profiting from pipelines, resource extraction and weapons manufacturing.

Sales from booth will be support our ongoing organizing, and portions of it will be donated to "Justice for Jared" ( Defund 604 Network ) and "Legal Funds to Support Ahmad Hajahmad Jarrar."

This year we will also hold a booth at the festival with banner signs, but we don't agree with Powell Street Festival Society's political stance to invite Japanese historical revisionists from consulate to our cultural festival.

And we belived the presence of the consulate at a cultural festival in Downtown Eastside makes such spaces a site of imperialism that directly harm survivors of Japanese imperialism and their descendants.

We, Nikkei Vancouver for Justice, received news issued by PFLP, would like to mourn the great revolutionary fighter Kozo Okamoto, a member of Japanese Red Army (JRA), who passed away on July 23, 2026, in Beirut at the age of 78.

He is one of the comrade of the Japanese Red Army that carried out the Deir Yassin Operation at "Al-Lydd" airport in 1972.

He subsequently endured 13 years in zionist prisons, mostly in solitary confinement, before his release in the 1985 prisoner exchange deal and eventual political asylum in Lebanon in 2000.

In Fusako Shigenobu's statement said "The Palestinian and Lebanese resistance against occupation inspires people everywhere who struggle against oppression across borders, strengthening our own struggles where we stand. The passing of Comrade Okamoto reminds us of the era of internationalism embodied by the fighters of Lydda."

This past year, members of Haebang Collective, Koreans 4 Decolonization, and Nikkei Vancouver 4 Justice joined together to organize a delegation to Japan. In May, we went on this life-changing “Mount Tai Solidarity Trip,” which is named in reference to the 1944 “Serve the People” speech by revolutionary Mao Zedong.

As anti-imperialist organizations, we realized the importance of cultivating international solidarity and people-to-people exchange with our comrades resisting Japan’s ongoing remilitarization for increasing U.S.-led war in the Pacific. We were also able to grow our relationships with multiple generations of Zainichi Koreans — whose families were forcibly brought from Korea to Japan as forced laborers during Japan’s colonization of Korea.

At this reportback event, we will share our learnings to the community through a hybrid presentation with a panel discussion. We encourage you to come and learn about topics including:

- The ways antiwar organizers in Japan are reaching the masses amid rising fascist movements
- Japan’s ongoing refusal to acknowledge and atone for its war crimes during its colonial era, and how this manifests in public memory
- The history of Zainichi Koreans, including woori (“our”) Korean schools, and the systemic discrimination they face from Japan
- Japan’s colonization of Okinawa and attempts to erase Okinawan cultural identity
- Resistance by Henoko and Takae villages against the devastating human and ecological impact of U.S. military bases in Okinawa
- B**g B**g Marcos’ visit with Sanae Takaichi to discuss an arms deal between the Philippines and Japan as leaders who are steadfast accomplices of U.S. imperialism in Asia
