We asked kids who bike to school: "What would make streets feel safer for you?"

They had a lot to say.

HUB Cycling's Streets for Tomorrow, Today campaign invites children and youth into the conversation around what it's really like to navigate their communities and brainstorms how we can do better.

One of the ways you can help is by being informed about where candidates stand on HUB Cycling's Municipal Election Cycling Platform policies, including Safe Streets for Youth, at https://hubcycling.ca/SafeStreetsToday

Thank you to our partner, Richards Buell Sutton LLP, for helping make this campaign possible.

When kids can bike, you can do what you like.

Prioritizing safe routes for kids to walk, bike, roll saves parents and caregivers time, reduces traffic congestion, improves children's health, and reduces serious transportation injuries.

Safe streets, they actually sell themselves.

Learn how you can make safe streets in your community a reality at hubcycling.ca/SafeStreetsToday.

Thank you to Richards Buell Sutton LLP for supporting Safe Streets Tomorrow, Today. 💕

HUB Cycling is hosting a workshop at the 2026 BC Active Transportation Summit!

🚲Building Community Leaders for Active Transportation and Mobility
📅 Wednesday, October 28 | 9 AM–12 PM
📍 Victoria Conference Centre, Victoria, BC

Local advocacy can make a real difference, but building and sustaining a strong group isn't always easy. That's where we can help.

Join HUB Cycling and Evolve, created by BCAA, for a hands-on workshop where you'll connect with advocates from across BC, share experiences and tackle some of the common challenges facing local groups.

You'll also test-drive a new Community Advocacy Digital Resource Hub, map out key partnerships and leave with practical tools and an action plan to help move your advocacy forward.

We have a limited number of complimentary workshop tickets available!

Priority will be given to advocates from equity-denied and underrepresented communities across BC, as well as grassroots and volunteer-led groups with limited resources. We want to help remove financial barriers to participation and make sure a wider range of voices and experiences are part of the conversation.

Interested in joining us? Send us an email at social @ hubcycling.ca to learn more about complimentary registration.

Heading into the weekend, we're feeling extra grateful for the more than 60 people, including kids, family members, and Vancouver candidates who showed up for the Florence Nightingale Bike Bus ride to school yesterday calling for safer streets. 💕

This ride launched HUB Cycling's Streets for Tomorrow, Today campaign working to make walking, biking and rolling safer for children and youth.

We wanted to share a few words from Jean, the parent volunteer who leads the Florence Nightingale Bike Bus ride to school:

"There was a lot of talk about advocacy [yesterday]. Whether or not cameras or politicians are present, I think the kids being active in this movement is the most beautiful and inspirational way to demonstrate to everyone that they are entitled to safe spaces too."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

When streets work for kids, they work for everyone.

We’re launching Streets for Tomorrow, Today to hear from children, youth, parents and caregivers about what it’s really like to walk, bike and roll in their communities; what helps them feel safe, where the challenges are and what they want to see change.

Over the coming months, we’ll be creating opportunities for young people and families to get involved and share their thoughts. Prioritizing safe routes for kids to walk, bike, roll reduces traffic congestion, improves children’s health, saves parents time, and reduces serious transportation injuries.

Last month, HUB Cycling wrapped up the Ride Your Path summer cohort. This special bike program for Indigenous, Black, and racialized youth helps young people use bicycles to explore and access their communities.

Over the two cohorts, forty-three youth participated in the program led by eight youth leaders.

Thank you BCAA for sponsoring the Ride Your Path program, and Norco Bicycles for providing in-kind support!

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and communities. With misinformation on the rise, acknowledging residential schools as a historical fact is more important than ever.

Tomorrow is also a day to deepen our understanding of the ongoing impacts of colonialism.

As we walk, bike and roll through our communities, we do so on the traditional territories of First Nations, much of which remains unceded. Taking time to learn whose territories we are on, and what it means for land to be unceded, is one part of that work.

HUB Cycling's office will be closed on September 30 to give our team time to reflect and learn.

If you're looking for ways to participate on September 30, here are a few community events shared with us by 312 Main:

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Place des Arts, Coquitlam | 10:00AM–12:00PM & 1:00PM–3:00PM: A free community event where Indigenous artists and educators will guide participants through discussion and a collaborative art activity.

Truth and Reconciliation Free Film Screening at Trout Lake Community Centre, Vancouver | 12:30PM–2:45PM: Watch two National Film Board documentaries exploring Indigenous identity, history, resilience and intergenerational healing.

Orange Shirt Society Dedicated Space at Canada Place, Vancouver | 8:00AM–5:00PM: Visit the Orange Shirt Society Dedicated Space at the Vancouver Convention Centre to learn, reflect and engage on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

Truth and reconciliation do not end on September 30. They require continued learning, reflection, accountability and action every day of the year. There’s still much work to do to confront the ongoing impacts of colonialism and move reconciliation forward.
