This information was sent out to the Vancouver Granville NDP EDA (Electoral District Association) mailing list recently. If you did NOT receive it, it means that either:
You are not a member of the federal NDP. If you have been in the past, your membership might have expired. There is information below on how to renew.
OR You don't live in the Vancouver Granville Electoral District (note: the boundaries for electoral districts changed before the 2025 election but due to its early call, some people might not have realized the change.
OR You are a member but we don't have your email address in our files.
If you are unsure of your NDP membership status, or would like to provide us with updated contact information, you can contact us at [email protected].

There are two EDA events coming up: The Federal NDP Convention delegate selection which is on January 26, just 8 days away. Note that at this Convention we will be selecting a new Leader. All NDP members are entitled to vote for the Leader and will be able to do so online, but members can also attend in person if voted to be a delegate, which means you can also participate in other activities such as debating and voting on resolutions. You MUST be an NDP member by January 28 2026 in order to vote for the new Leader.

The other event is our AGM and Social on March 1 2026. At this event we will elect our EDA Executive for the next year and have the opportunity to meet each other. More information on this event will be sent out later. You must also be a member of the NDP in order to run for a position on the EDA Executive and to vote in the election.

2026 FEDERAL NDP CONVENTION:

This year's annual Federal NDP Convention will take place in Winnipeg from March 27-29, and our EDA is eligible to send between 9 and 10 delegates (based on the latest count of our membership). Convention delegates will meet, discuss, and vote on important party issues that range from passing policy resolutions to choosing a new leader of the Federal NDP.

Because these delegates will represent the interests of Vancouver Granville on the national stage, it's crucial that we choose them democratically. All current members in our riding are eligible, and can put their name forward to be a delegate by filling in this form, or emailing us at [email protected] with the subject line “2026 Convention Delegate Interest” before Friday, January 23rd at 11:59pm.

Mark your calendars: once the candidate names have been collected, there will be a special meeting to vote on who will be a Vancouver Granville delegate on Monday, January 26th at 7:00pm. This meeting will take place online over Zoom and all current members in our riding are eligible to vote. Candidates will have a brief opportunity to speak and share their leanings ahead of the vote.

UPDATE ON THE 2026 AGM AND SPRING SOCIAL

Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday, March 1st, so save the date! The AGM is the place to hear about what our EDA has been working on and to run for a position on our executive committee. This year, we're also looking to build our community and will feautre social and town hall opportunities. Stay tuned as we work to finalize the time, location, and format for the AGM – you can expect to hear from us soon.

HELP US GET TO CONVENTION!

Attending the Federal NDP Convention is expensive – registration alone is $349 – and EDA delegates are asked to pay their own way. Can you chip in to help cover registration fees, airfare, and accommodation? The delegates who will represent us volunteer their time and energy, but your support is critical to get them there. We’ll send you a tax receipt!
Help us get to Convention!
Thank you for letting your voice be heard.

Onwards in hope and solidarity,

Anjali & your VanGran EDA Executive team

P.S. Thanks so much to those who have already donated to help us get to Convention. We appreciate you! If you haven't already, please consider chipping in to ensure Vancouver Granville members are represented on the convention floor! Thank you!

I'm in Nunavut - The True North Strong and Free. 🇨🇦

And I want to share a powerful moment of connection I experienced here.

Yesterday afternoon, Lori Idlout and I visited Qajuqturvik community centre where this photo was taken.

The women in the community centre were doing a sewing circle with sealskin, when one of the women asked about my turban and hair, saying she wished she could see how the turban works.

So I showed her - and we had a heartfelt cultural exchange about Sikh and Inuit culture.

I shared that Sikhs are known as warriors and protectors of justice, and a visible sign of faith such as our turban is intended to help people identify a Sikh when in need of help. It was a brief moment - but a special one that really showed how small the world is.

And how generous, kind and welcoming the people of Nunavut are.

Why Canada is respected and even envied around the world.

Why Canada is respected and even envied around the world.

My parents chose Canada because they knew it was the greatest country in the world for them to raise a family.

Canada will never be the 51st state.
