How do you spot a sinkhole before it forms?

Japan is using AI and 3D microwave radar to act like a "CT scanner" for city streets, mapping hidden underground voids without needing to dig up the roads. This proactive technology is helping cities everywhere stay safer and more resilient against disasters.

A technology from Japan uses microwave radar and AI to non-destructively and accurately visualize both subsurface cavities linked to sinkholes and the location of underground utilities. Now it is helping cities worldwide become more disaster resilient.

On August 19, Consul General Takahashi visited Kelowna, which is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its sister-city relationship with Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture. He exchanged views with Acting Mayor Maxine DeHart, Sister City Association President Ken Fix, and others involved in the sister-city relationship. He also visited Kasugai Gardens, a Japanese garden that has become a popular place for Kelowna residents to relax and enjoy.

８月１９日、髙橋総領事は愛知県春日井市との姉妹都市交流４５周年となるケロウナ市を訪問し、マキシム・ドゥハート市長代理及ケン・フィックス姉妹都市交流委員会長ら姉妹都市交流関係者と意見交換をするとともに、同市市民の憩いの場となっている「春日井庭園」を視察しました。

On August 18, Consul General Takahashi attended a sister-city exchange event between Salmon Arm and Inashiki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, which includes the area of the former Azuma Town (Azuma-machi). He offered words of encouragement to eight junior high and high school students from Inashiki who were visiting Salmon Arm as part of a student exchange program. He also met and exchanged views with Mayor Alan Harrison of Salmon Arm and Mayor Shintaro Kakehi of Inashiki.

　８月１８日、髙橋総領事は、サーモンアーム市と稲敷市（茨城県、旧東町〈あずままち〉の区域を含む）の姉妹都市交流イベントに参加し、学生交流として訪れた同市の中学・高校生８名にエールを送るとともに、アラン・ハリソン市長、筧信太郎市長と懇談しました。
