News release

Police investigating unfounded threats at Nechako Valley Secondary School
March 2, 2026 - Vanderhoof, British Columbia
From: Vanderhoof RCMP

File: 2026-472

On March 1, 2026, Vanderhoof RCMP received a report of possible threats to Nechako Valley Secondary School. Police are actively investigating the report; however, at this stage of the investigation, no information has been identified to suggest the threats are credible.

Out of an abundance of caution, Vanderhoof RCMP have increased patrols in the area of the school. These additional patrols are intended to provide visibility and reassurance to students, staff, and the wider community.

“At this time, we do not believe there is any risk to the public or to those within the school,” said Cpl. Brett, RCMP spokesperson. “We understand that these types of reports can cause concern for parents and the community, and we want to reassure everyone that we are actively investigating and will continue to maintain a presence around the school.”

Police continue to work closely with school administration as the investigation moves forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Vanderhoof RCMP at 250-567-2222.

Thank you to everyone who came out to see us during our National Police Week open house! This year we had approximately 300 people stop by throughout the day. We hope you all had as much fun meeting us as we did meeting you all!

Thank you also to our partner agencies that joined us for the day! Vanderhoof Volunteer Fire Department, BC Ambulance, BC Conservation Service, Prince George Forensic Identification Section and the North District RCMP Police Dog Section.

Last but not least, thank you to the local businesses who came out in support as well. Bakkerij Lobelle for providing delicious donuts, Tim Hortons Vanderhoof for providing coffee and hot chocolate, and Four Rivers Co-op for coming out with their BBQ and cooking up delicious hamburgers and hotdogs! All proceeds of the BBQ will be donated to Neighbourlink to support local families in need.

Until next time!
