As another season at Blue Lake Provincial Park draws to a close, we'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who spent part of their summer with us.

Whether you were camping under the stars, paddling across the lake, relaxing on the beach, exploring a trail, attending a program, or spotting wildlife along the way, thank you for making Blue Lake part of your summer.

This year was filled with campfires, sunsets, discoveries, adventures, and countless memories shared by visitors and staff alike. We're grateful for every family vacation, weekend getaway, and day trip that brought people together in this special place.

As we head into the off-season, our social media channels will be taking a break, and we won't be responding to comments or direct messages.

And just like that, another season at Blue Lake comes to an end. For the last of the year, we want to thank each and every one of our incredible staff members who helped make this season a success!

A huge thank you to our entire team for all the hard work, laughs, dedication, and memories you brought to the park this summer. From welcoming visitors and maintaining campsites to running interpretive programs, keeping the park clean, and everything in between, every person played an important role in making this season special.

To all of our staff members: thank you for an amazing season. We'll miss having you around, and we hope to see you back at Blue Lake next year! 💚💙

Did You Know? 🐿️

Red squirrels may be small, but they're some of the busiest animals in the forest! Throughout the year, they collect and store spruce and pine cones in large food caches to help them make it through the winter.

If you've ever heard a rapid chatter coming from the trees, chances are a red squirrel was keeping an eye on you. These feisty little mammals are highly territorial and aren't shy about letting the rest of the forest know whose tree they're in! 🌲

Listen for their scolding calls and keep an eye out for piles of chewed cone scales beneath trees. A red squirrel is probably nearby, hard at work preparing for the seasons ahead.

💚 While they may look cute and curious, please remember that wildlife stays healthiest when it remains wild. Never feed squirrels or other wildlife in the park.

Happy First Day of Fall! 🍂

Today marks the autumnal equinox, the official first day of fall.

Coloured leaves are beginning to peek through, showing off touches of yellow and red and adding splashes of colour among the evergreens. Colourful mushrooms are popping up across the forest floor, some looking like dapperly dressed gnomes in perfectly round caps nestled among the leaves. The forest is quiet and peaceful, yet teeming with life preparing for winter. 🍄🍁

As summer winds down, many birds are continuing their fall migration, cooler mornings are settling in, and the park is preparing for the season ahead.

📅 With just one week left before the park closes for the year, now is a great time to enjoy a final hike, paddle, or campfire surrounded by the changing landscape.

It's time for another ! Meet Alorah, one of our three awesome Manual Workers.

The summer crowds may be winding down, but the work at Blue Lake certainly isn't! Alorah is an important part of our maintenance team and one of the few members still helping around the park this fall, keeping it looking perfect for late-season campers!

🦋 Favorite animal in the park: Polyphemus Moth
🏞️ Park she'd like to visit next: Lake Superior Provincial Park
🐦 Favorite Parks memory: Helping a Ruby-throated Hummingbird back to health alongside her coworkers, a special reminder that working in a park can sometimes mean helping the wildlife that calls it home!

🌳 Pro-tip: Don't strip tree bark! Bark is an important part of a tree's defense against insects and disease, so let trees keep their protective layer.

We're lucky to have Alorah's hard work, calm energy, and dedication on our Blue Lake team this season, helping take care of the park for the many people and animals that stop by or call it home.

If you see Alorah around the park this fall, be sure to stop and say hello! 👋

🌊🐦 Do you believe in "seagulls"?

Unfortunately, if you do, we're about to burst your bubble because... technically, seagulls don't exist!

These lovable, squawking, food-stealing birds are properly called gulls, and there are many different species to discover. One of the most common gulls is pictured here, gazing off into the sunset (no doubt having a mid-life crisis after learning this fact).

Can you guess its name?

👀 Hint: Take a close look at the bird's bill. Do you notice a ring-shaped marking near the tip?

If you guessed Ring-billed Gull, you're absolutely right!

Phew... another birding myth busted!
