🦇 Happy International Bat Night! 🦇

Did you know we have several bat boxes around the park, including along some of our trails and on the back of our amphitheatre? These boxes were installed last year to provide safe roosting habitat for bats, which play an important role in our ecosystems by helping control insect populations.

🔨 Interested in building your own bat box? Check out this helpful guide from Ontario Parks: https://blog.ontarioparks.ca/diy-bat-box/

🔎 There's a lot of misinformation about bats, but these fascinating mammals are far more helpful than many people realize. Want to learn more? Check out Bats: The Mammal, the Myth, the Legend from the Ontario Parks Blog for some fun bat facts and myth-busting information: https://blog.ontarioparks.ca/bats-the-mammal-the-myth-the-legend/

Who knows... after learning more, you might just go batty for bats! 🦇💙

For this week's , we're celebrating two of our amazing summer students (who just so happen to be roommates too) and have been part of the Blue Lake family this summer: Alicia and Lin! Both brought their own energy, hard work, and personality to the team, while making plenty of memories along the way.

Alicia - Maintenance Student (right)
🌲 Years in Parks: First year!
🏞️ Park she'd like to visit next: Rushing River Provincial Park
🛶 Favorite memory in Parks: Paddleboarding with her roommate Lin (definitely a great way to spend the summer here!)

Lin - Gate Attendant (left)
🌲 Years in Parks: First year!
🏞️ Park she'd like to visit next: Arrowhead Provincial Park
🪹 Favorite park memory: Discovering a loon nest while kayaking with her roommate Alicia (some of the best parts of working in a park happen outside of the job itself!)

👋 If you see Alicia or Lin in the park be sure to say "hello"! We're so happy to have these two as a part of the Blue Lake team this summer!

08/20/2026

As of early this morning (August 20), the fire ban to reduce the risk of human-caused fires during a period of high fire danger has officially been lifted.

Campfires and the burning of solid fuels (e.g. charcoal, wood, etc.) are once again permitted in the park.

While fires are allowed, please continue to practice safe campfire habits:
✅ Keep fires in designated fire pits only
✅ Never leave a fire unattended
✅ Keep your fire small and manageable (with a water bucket ready)
✅ Fully extinguish your fire before leaving or turning in for the night

Reminder: Start the fire no earlier than 2 hours before sunset and put it out no later than 2 hours after sunrise the next day.

Let's all do our part to keep the park safe and enjoyable for everyone. Happy camping! 🏕️

Sometimes, all you need to slow down, is the sound of waves lapping at Blue Lake's beautiful sandy beach. 🌊

The gentle sound of waves along the shore is our Park Program Educator Niraj’s favorite sound of summer. After a busy day of programs, hiking trails, and exploring the park, he loves taking a moment to sit by the lake and listen to the water. It’s a simple reminder to slow down, take a deep breath, and appreciate the little moments that make summer at Blue Lake so special. 💙

So turn up the volume, take a breath, and give yourself a few seconds to simply listen. 🍃

What’s your favorite sound of summer? Let us know in the comments below. 👇

For this week, we are introducing Miki and Carter, two of our Manual Workers!

Some teams just work well together, and these two are definitely one of those teams!

They’re hardworking, dependable, and always ready to lend a hand, but what really makes this duo stand out is how much fun they bring to the team. Whether they're working together, making jokes, or helping out wherever they're needed, Miki and Carter have become a favorite duo around the park.

Get to know the two of them:
Miki
🌲 Years in Parks: 3
🐢 Favorite animal in the park: Painted Turtle
🍦 Favourite ice cream: Caramel Drumstick
🥾 Pro tip: If you have the time, explore as many of the park's trails as you can. You never know what you'll discover along the way!

Carter
🌲 Years in Parks: 2
🐦 Favorite animal in the park: Ruby-throated Hummingbird
🍦 Favourite ice cream: Moose Tracks
🌿 Pro tip: Take a moment to slow down, be still, and appreciate where you are. Sometimes the best part of being in nature is simply taking it all in.

Both of them have the stunning Sleeping Giant Provincial Park on the top of their "Parks Bucket List". Talk about coincidence!

Next time you see Miki and Carter around the park, give this hardworking duo a wave! 👋
