The fire ban has been lifted for our area. Please remember we are still in fire season and daytime burning is still not allowed. Ensure you follow all fire safety rules, don't burn if winds exceed 10 km/hour and monitor the fire until it is completely out.

Our region is currently at an extreme fire hazard and as of midnight tonight a restricted fire zone (RFZ) will come into effect with all outdoor fires being banned until further notice.

Through the first half of 2026, the firefighters of Machin Fire have responded to 42 calls for service throughout our response area comprising of the Municipality of Machin Ontario, the surrounding Unorganized townships and various highways.

They have also participated in numerous training activities and been present to support community events.

We would like to remind everyone to enjoy their summer making sure to use the appropriate safety equipment for activities and follow laws and guidelines to protect themselves and others

At approximately 3:30 pm on Sunday, May 31, Machin Fire responded to a single vehicle MVC 20 km west of Vermilion Bay on Hwy 17. A vehicle left the road and started on fire in the ditch. 7 firefighters responded with 3 apparatus and extinguished the vehicle.

The fire ignited grass in the ditch and extended towards the treeline. MNR fire crews responded rapidly and were able to stop the fire before it spread into the trees. We thank the MNR for their assistance and efforts which prevented this from developing into a more serious incident.

No injuries resulted from the MVC or resulting fire

for any downed power lines or trees down on power lines stay at least 10m (30 ft) away to protect yourself from electrical shock from electricity travelling through the ground.

Call 911 and Hydro One and keep your distance. Even if there is no visible arcing the lines could still be live.

Low hanging power lines require caution. If you see one, stay at least 10 metres away and report it immediately.

Machin fire responded to trees on fire caught in the hydro line on Townline rd this evening. Thank you for the quick response from near by residents and Hydro One. Fire is out and power is restored. Reminder to residents; fires of this nature can often have live downed hydro lines.
