Another excellent training course hosted and run by City of Dryden Fire Service! Sincere thanks to Chief Chris Woods and Trainer Devon Noel for making time to put on the NFPA Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator course so that neighbouring departments were able to send personnel in order to obtain their pumper certification.

Firefighters from Machin, Wabigoon Fire, Ignace Fire, Pellat Fire and Minaki Fire took part in the course over 2 separate weekends and many hours of pre course work online.

Through the first nine months of 2026 Machin Volunteer Fire and First Response has responded to a total of 69 calls for service.

In addition to responding to emergencies firefighters have taken part in many hours of training, including on line courses and taking the time to travel to Thunder Bay for a full week of in person courses at Firecon.

As the weather cools, we would like to remind everyone to check their heating systems to ensure they are safe and ready to use for the upcoming winter months and as always, test your smoke/CO alarms to ensure they are working.

At 8:45 p.m. Friday, September 4, Machin Fire responded to a call for a fire at a residence in Vermilion Bay. A camper had started on fire and spread to the nearby garage.

Quick action by the first arriving crew knocked down the fire rapidly growing on the garage preventing extension to the house. 6 firefighters in 3 fire trucks worked for 2 hours to extinguish the camper and the remaining fire on the garage.

The garage structure was saved with damage to the exterior and the roof. Unfortunately the camper was a total loss.

Our thanks to the efforts of the Machin fire crew in the rapid knockdown minimizing the growth of the fire.

The fire ban has been lifted for our area. Please remember we are still in fire season and daytime burning is still not allowed. Ensure you follow all fire safety rules, don't burn if winds exceed 10 km/hour and monitor the fire until it is completely out.

Our region is currently at an extreme fire hazard and as of midnight tonight a restricted fire zone (RFZ) will come into effect with all outdoor fires being banned until further notice.

Through the first half of 2026, the firefighters of Machin Fire have responded to 42 calls for service throughout our response area comprising of the Municipality of Machin Ontario, the surrounding Unorganized townships and various highways.

They have also participated in numerous training activities and been present to support community events.

We would like to remind everyone to enjoy their summer making sure to use the appropriate safety equipment for activities and follow laws and guidelines to protect themselves and others
