Gender-based violence is a pervasive issue across Canada, and the Gender Based Violence (GBV) workforce works hard daily to combat it. Workers respond to crisis, support survivors and help make communities safer.

This week following Labour Day, with ESVA Canada join us in recognizing the multitudes of the GBV workforce and the systemic challenges faced by the GBV sector in Canada.

This is what the normalization of violence against women looks like, and here's what we do about it.

This week a (now-deleted) Callaway Golf x Good Good Golf ad was released titled "The Driver" depicting Good Good co-founder Garret Clark shoving golfer Alexis Miestowski to the ground for touching his golf clubs.

Both companies have since apologized, but what's important is this ad already made it through many layers of production and approval, and was posted to an audience of over 2.1 million. With this audience being made up of mostly young men, what they are being told is violence against women is normal and something to joke about.

The problem is obvious, but most normalization isn't:
➡️ Recognize it is never "just a joke"
➡️ Talk about it and call it out
➡️ Get involved: If the Callaway ad made you angry turn it into action, work with us to address violence against women in the North Okanagan - donate or volunteer today visit: archwaysociety.ca

Today, we say goodbye to a true icon 🩵

Dolly Parton's career as a singer, songwriter, actor, business woman, and activist is a legacy that will not be forgotten. As an artist she was inspiring in her unapologetic nature, compassion, and ambition.

Perhaps Dolly never called herself a feminist but the way she lived her life represented the power of a self-determined woman. She sang about workplace inequality with the anthem for working women "9 to 5", called out the double standard in "Just Because I'm a Woman", and refused to sign away her publishing rights even to Elvis. She built her own empire, on her own terms, and never apologized for her success or how she looked doing it.

That's what we work toward every day at Archway. Building a community where every woman gets to write her own story.

Rest in power Dolly.

If you were at the Archway Open Charity Golf Tournament these cards may look familiar 👀🩵

The Messages of Hope cards are a new project introduced at the Archway Open Charity Golf Tournament to deepen attendees connection to the services and clients Archway supports 🫂

Now on display at our Transition House these cards provide meaningful reassurance from our community that not only believes in ending gender-based violence but providing care and comfort to those affected. One message of hope can make all the difference!

The cards will continue to be cycled and displayed at Archway's other facilities. Thank you for the kind words.
