Meet the artist exhibiting at Carr House May 2nd - 23rd, 2026!

Kayla Radhika Miller (she/her), originally from northwestern Ontario, is a Victoria-based painter, art historian, and yoga teacher whose work explores the spiritual language of the arts.

Working primarily in acrylic, her paintings move between representation and abstraction — challenging the solidity of form and dissolving the borders of separation to evoke an all-permeating, melodic presence. Rooted in her study of yoga, ta**ra, and mystic traditions, her practice understands art as both a means of deepening into reality and an expression of that encounter.

Influenced by artists like Emily Carr, Lawren Harris, and Hilma af Klint, Miller approaches painting as a devotional and perceptual practice. She holds a Master's degree in Art History, with research examining the influence of the Bhagavad Gītā on Lawren Harris and the development of Canadian modernism, and has 900 hours of yoga teacher training. A teacher of spiritually-oriented yoga, philosophy, and art, her work has been shown in wellness spaces, galleries, the Emily Carr House, and ashrams, and is held in private collections internationally.

Come and meet Kayla at our Opening Event Saturday, May 2nd 1 - 4pm
Artist Talks: 2pm and 3pm
Gallery Hours will be Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 10am - 4pm

Sunday, March 29th at 2 pm | Emily Carr Tour – Part 1

Emily Carr’s grave is one of the most visited at RBC. Every year, a team of OCS guides visits the graves of many people Emily knew. Emily herself (a.k.a. Molly Raher Newman) will delight us with readings about these people from Emily’s prolific writings. A second, different Emily Carr tour is scheduled later this year.

This tour takes place at Ross Bay Cemetery, beginning at 2 pm. We meet at the entrance gate on Fairfield Road at Stannard Avenue. Cost is $2 for OCS members or $5 for non-members; cash or e-transfer accepted.

We were blown away by the work these volunteers did last week in the Carr House garden! After months of planning, the volunteer team and the Carr House volunteer gardening team joined forces to completely rejuvinate the space, curating the plots to better suit the historic home. We want to thank everyone who volunteered their expertise, time, and energy for this event, including Jacqui Paulson (corollalandscape.ca) who was instrumental in the design and ex*****on of this project. We are forever grateful and excited to see everything in bloom this summer!

On this day, March 2nd in 1945, Emily Carr passed away at the James Bay Inn (aged 73). While Emily was not as famous during her lifetime as she is today, we recognize her now as a monumental figure in Victoria's cultural history and her life story continues to inspire us all.
Although Carr House will be closed today, we invite people to spend some time remembering Emily at two local landmarks dedicated to her passing: her grave stone in Ross Bay Cemetery, and the pebble bridge built in her memory at Beacon Hill Park.
