🌊 A busy weekend on the water!

On October 3–4, the Old Massett CN-CGA volunteer crew spent a full weekend on the water, putting their skills into practice through hands-on towing exercises, night runs, and navigation training. The crew members had opportunities to take on different roles, learn from one another, and build confidence operating as a team in both daylight and darkness. Their dedication to continued training helps strengthen their readiness to respond when their community needs them.

Thank you to Errol Nyce, Nisga’a Nation Zone Coordinator, for joining as a mentor and sharing his knowledge alongside the Canadian Coast Guard ICRT training team.

Shout out to RCMSAR Station 45, training alongside the CN-CGA crew. A great opportunity to share knowledge, build skills, and strengthen teamwork between responders.

Thank you to everyone for your dedication to keeping coastal communities safer.

A big recognition to the Wuikinuxv CN-CGA crew for their continued presence on the water - continuing to build their skills through training in their community.

Regular, hands-on training is what keeps skills sharp and crews prepared. Every hour spent practising communication, teamwork and decision-making helps build the experience needed to respond safely and effectively when a call for help comes in.

Thank you to the Wuikinuxv crew for continuing to put in the time, support one another, and strengthen marine emergency response capacity within your community.

Bravo Zulu to the Nisga’a CN-CGA Crew! ⚓

A big part of building a strong SAR crew is experienced members taking the time to mentor new crew, share their knowledge, and train together. The Nisga'a team has been busy preparing new crew members, developing their skills in navigation and first aid.

Nisga'a CN-CGA and the Canadian Coast Guard ICRT team, continues to build skills in navigation, vessel operations and SAR, helping newer members gain the experience and confidence they need to be prepared.

This training takes a real commitment from our volunteers. Every hour spent on the water, mentoring a new member and practicing SAR skills helps build a stronger, more prepared crew and a safer community.

World Maritime Day recognizes the importance of safe, secure and responsible maritime activity around the world.

This year’s theme, From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence, looks at what it takes to turn maritime standards into what actually happens on the water and ashore.

Here on the BC coast, the CN-CGA is part of Canada’s marine search and rescue system, serving mariners and coastal communities when help is needed on the water.

Today, we recognize the wider maritime community and the many people and organizations who each have a part in keeping our waters safer.

Leadership Opportunity – CCGA National Chair

The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary – National is accepting applications for its next National Chair of the Board.

This volunteer leadership role is an opportunity to help guide the national organization, strengthen governance, and support marine safety and search and rescue across Canada.

The commitment is approximately 8–12 hours per month for an initial two-year term.

Application deadline: October 5, 2026 at 15:00 EST
