This past weekend was a big one for us.
There are six Coast Guard Auxiliaries across Canada, and twice a year we come together to support marine search and rescue on a national level. This year, for the first time, CN-CGA had the honour of hosting.
Because Ahousaht is where our Auxiliary began, it felt right to gather in Tofino and hold a SAR exercise with our partners—RCMSAR, the Canadian Coast Guard, RCMP, and BC Ambulance.
To close the weekend, we recognized our Ahousaht leaders and crew members for their dedication, leadership, and the strength they bring to this work.
Thank you to the Ahousaht crew for hosting, to visiting crew from KCFN, ’Namgis, and Quatsino, and to the other CGA regions who travelled to be here. We also extend our appreciation to the ICRT, Canadian Coast Guard SAR Superintendents and leadership from SAR Programs in Ottawa.
SAR response requires multiple agencies to be successful. At its core, it’s about trust, relationships, and showing up for one another—on every call, in every community, across every coast in Canada.
