🔥 It’s Fire Prevention Week! 🚒
Meet our Fire Prevention Team.

Our work starts long before the alarm sounds. We help prevent fires, reduce risk and protect lives and property through inspections and public education - including visiting local schools to teach kids what to do when seconds count.

When a fire occurs, our investigators play a critical role in determining where and how it started, examining evidence and investigating suspicious and intentionally set fires.

From prevention to investigation, our team works year-round to help keep our community safe.

🔥 This Fire Prevention Week, turn awareness into action.

🔥 It’s Fire Prevention Week! 🚒

This year’s message is “Charge into Fire Safety” - focusing on safe charging habits that can help reduce the risk of fires.

We’re out in the community this week visiting elementary schools, helping with fire drills, teaching kids about fire safety - and giving out plenty of high fives along the way! 🙌🧯

An important message from our Fire Prevention Team:

🔥🔋 DON’T LET YOUR BATTERY BECOME THE HOT TOPIC.

Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere - phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, power tools, earbuds and more.

Most of the time, they’re pretty boring. Let’s keep it that way.

⚡ Use the charger designed for your device
⚡ Charge on a hard, flat surface
⚡ Keep charging devices away from exits
⚡ Don’t charge damaged or swollen batteries
⚡ Unplug when fully charged

Let’s make safe charging habits part of our everyday fire safety routine. 🔥🔋

Six priorities for a safer Victoria.

As Victoria continues to grow, public safety needs to remain a priority. These are six issues Victoria Firefighters believe deserve attention:

1️⃣ Safe Buildings, Safer Communities
Require more than one stairwell in new construction so residents and firefighters can exit and enter safely during a fire.

2️⃣ Stop Violence Against Firefighters
Take action to prevent violence and aggression toward first responders while responding to emergency calls.

3️⃣ Stronger Mental Health Supports
Support proactive mental health care to help keep Fire Department members healthy and on the job.

4️⃣ Ready for High-Rise Growth
Ensure the Fire Department has adequate resources to protect the growing number of people living in high-rises.

5️⃣ Response Times Save Lives
Make Fire Department response times a critical consideration in new road and construction planning.

6️⃣ A Safer Harbour
Provide the resources needed for the Fire Department to help protect Victoria Harbour.

One Local. One Team. Working for a safer Victoria.

Congratulations to Brother Todd Schierling

Victoria Firefighters IAFF Local 730 recognizes BCPFFA President and Surrey Fire Captain Todd Schierling as he begins his campaign as the BC NDP candidate for MLA in Delta North.

Todd has spent decades fiercely advocating on issues that directly affect professional firefighters and public safety across British Columbia, including occupational cancer protections, firefighter health and mental-health supports, pensions and workplace safety. His candidacy follows endorsements from the BCPFFA Executive Board, Surrey Fire Fighters Local 1271 and Delta Fire Fighters Local 1763.

Local 730’s political engagement is centred on the issues affecting our members and the communities we serve. We work with elected representatives and candidates across the political spectrum on those issues.

We thank Todd for his years of advocacy on behalf of professional firefighters and wish him well as he takes this next step in public service.

🧡 Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

It is a time to honour Survivors, remember the children who never came home, and reflect on the experiences of Indigenous families and communities across Canada.

May today be a reminder of the importance of listening, learning, and continuing the work of reconciliation together.

Strong work by C Shift early this morning on a challenging vehicle fire involving two fully involved vehicles beneath a residential balcony.

Crews made a quick attack, containing the fire and preventing it from extending into the residence. Some exterior damage occurred, but thankfully everyone was safe.

Great job by all crews involved and a solid response by C Shift.
