In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, GVHS offices will be closed on Wednesday, September 30.

On this day, we honour the children who never returned home, survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

We encourage everyone to take time to listen, learn and reflect on the ongoing work of reconciliation.

Our offices will reopen on Thursday, October 1.

Housing is the foundation of healthy communities and strong local economies. Yet while leading countries have 20-30% of their housing stock in non-market housing, Canada remains at just 4%. This is a gap we need to close to ensure our communities can be affordable now and into the future. Progress has been made, but there is still much more to do. The Greater Victoria Housing Society endorses the VIHLN Municipal Calls to Action ahead of the 2026 municipal elections, supporting solutions that ensure everyone has access to safe, affordable housing and the supports they need to thrivH

Pacifica Housing and our colleagues in the Vancouver Island Housing Leadership Network (VIHLN) are calling on Vancouver Island municipal candidates to help protect housing progress and keep moving forward in the changing context.

VIHLN’s Homes For All People Pledge asks candidates to:
🏠 Treat supportive housing as essential community infrastructure
🏠 Protect and retain existing affordable, supportive and transitional housing
🏠 Maintain municipal leadership on housing

GVHS staff were excited to visit the site of our new offices! That's right, GVHS Head Office will soon move to the ground floor of our new building at 856 Nigel Avenue.

In addition, the building will feature 70 affordable rental units, in the heart of Uptown.

We are busy packing up our desks and gearing up for the move! See you soon.

Retrofit work is underway at Tillicum Terrace.

Located in the Tillicum neighbourhood Saanich, Tillicum Terrace is a 4-story subsidized townhouse/apartment building. It features 24 2-bedroom 2 level townhouses for families and 28 1- bedroom and 1 -2-bedroom units for 55+ and persons with disabilities located on the 2 floors above the townhouses. Townhouses have patios and apartments have balconies.

Phase One of the building retrofit project includes the replacement of all exterior doors and windows, as well as the renewal of the building’s exterior cladding and envelope. This phase will also involve the replacement of balcony decks and guardrails, improving the building’s overall durability, energy efficiency, safety, and appearance.
