Join us in welcoming the newest member of the Naden Band, S1 Emily Richardson!
Originally from Calgary, Alberta, S1 Richardson holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia and an Advanced Certificate in Performance from the University of Toronto. She has performed with ensembles across the country, including the National Youth Orchestra, Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra, Red Deer Symphony, and Ontario Philharmonic.
A fun fact about Emily: she’s a Baroque flute specialist, performing with groups such as Victoria Baroque and the Trinity Bach Project, and has appeared at the Toronto Baroque Festival. Outside of music, she enjoys hiking, cross‑country skiing, and baking—especially overcomplicated desserts ;).
Before joining the Canadian Armed Forces, S1 Richardson worked as a freelance musician and private teacher. She earned her Regular Force position through a civilian audition and completed her Basic Military Qualification this January in Borden, Ontario. While this is her first career with the CAF, she’s excited for the opportunities ahead—from educational outreach shows to touring with the band, all while continuing to pursue her musical passions both inside and outside of service.
S1 Richardson will make her first official appearance with us on our spring tour in Whistler and Vancouver. Welcome to the Naden Band, Emily—we’re thrilled to have you!

Originalement de Calgary, en Alberta, la mat1 Richardson est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en musique de l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique et d’un certificat d’études supérieures en interprétation de l’Université de Toronto. Elle a joué avec des ensembles partout au pays, notamment l’Orchestre national des jeunes, l’Orchestre interculturel de Vancouver, l’Orchestre symphonique de Red Deer et l’Orchestre philharmonique de l’Ontario.
Anecdote intéressante à propos d’Emily: elle est spécialiste de la flûte baroque et joue avec des ensembles comme Victoria Baroque et le Trinity Bach Project. Elle s’est également produite au Festival baroque de Toronto. En dehors de la musique, elle aime la randonnée, le ski de fond et la pâtisserie, surtout les desserts un peu compliqués ;).
Avant de s’enrôler dans les Forces armées canadiennes, mat1 Richardson travaillait comme musicienne indépendante et donnait des cours particuliers. Elle a obtenu son poste dans la force régulière à la suite d’une audition civile et a terminé sa qualification militaire de base en janvier dernier à Borden, en Ontario. Bien qu'il s'agisse de sa première carrière au sein des FAC, elle est enthousiaste à l'idée des opportunités qui s'offrent à elle: spectacles de sensibilisation, tournées avec l'orchestre, et la possibilité de continuer à cultiver sa passion pour la musique, tant au sein qu'à l'extérieur de son service.
La mat1 Richardson fera sa première apparition officielle avec nous lors de notre tournée printanière à Whistler et Vancouver. Bienvenue à la Musique Naden, Emily! Nous sommes ravis de t'accueillir!
