A Message Regarding the Cat in the Recently Circulated Video

We understand the concern and strong emotions surrounding the video circulating online. Unfortunately, there is also misinformation being shared, and we would like to clarify a few important points.

The cat was removed from the situation, was assessed, and no injuries were identified. The cat is now in a safe environment recovering and for privacy reasons, we cannot share further details about its current arrangements.

The BC SPCA is currently investigating this matter. CRD staff are not authorized agents under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and do not have the authority to lay charges under that legislation.

Our Animal Shelter staff have provided excellent care and shown compassion throughout this situation. We are proud of their dedication and ask that our community please treat them with kindness and respect. They do not control the investigation, determine whether charges will be laid, or have the ability to share further information.

Thank you for your understanding and for supporting our shelter staff.

UPDATE: Turns out this little guy was an expensive date 😂 — his medical needs are simply beyond what we’re funded to handle.

He has now been transferred to an organization better equipped to care for him.

Thanks to everyone who shared and cared about this little guy!

🚨 FOUND: ONE CONFUSED LITTLE GENTLEMAN 🚨

Excuse me, sir… where are your people?

Because according to this face, he has been personally inconvenienced by absolutely EVERYTHING today. 😂

He’s giving strong:

“I was promised a retirement home and instead you brought me here.”
“I have had enough of this nonsense.”
“Do you have snacks or not?”
“I’d like to speak to whoever is in charge.”

😂❤️

This sweet old guy was found in Saanich near Esquimalt and is currently being cared for while we try to locate his family.

Don’t worry — he is receiving medical treatment and is getting the care he needs. ❤️🐾

If you recognize this handsome little grump, PLEASE reach out so we can get him reunited with his people.

And if you’d like to help with his medical care, donations can be made by e-transfer to:

📧 [email protected]

Please share far and wide!

Somewhere out there is a family currently wondering where their cranky little grandpa has wandered off to. 😂

Let’s get this gentleman HOME. 🐾❤️

🐱🚨 CAT INTAKE HAS NOW RESUMED! 🚨🐱

But before everyone hears “cat intake” and starts loading every feline wandering the streets into the car… a tiny but important disclaimer. 👀

We understand rehoming a pet can be hard, and we genuinely want to help. ❤️ However, we are not an animal surrender facility, we are an animal impound/shelter facility, we do not have the space or resources to accept owner surrenders at this time.

Stating that a cat is “stray” when in truth, you can no longer keep your pet, is not the right approach and can make it harder for us to help.

Unfortunately, the shelter does not have a secret basement, unlimited funding, or a magical “ADD MORE CATS” button. We have looked. 🤷‍♀️

Please be honest with us. We don’t judge. We want to help. We’ll do our best to help find another option.

And if anyone happens to know an animal lover with a generous heart who’s looking to make a difference for pets in the CRD, please send them our way. We’re accepting donations, miracles, and anyone who knows where the “build us a bigger shelter” button is. 😂

🚨🚨 STOP SCROLLING. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. 🚨🚨

DID SOMEONE SAY KITTENS?!?! 😼

Yes. We did.

And before you say, “I don’t need another cat…” — please understand that nobody asked you. 😂

We have tiny 12-week-old agents of chaos, right up to cats around 6 years old who have already perfected the art of silently judging your entire existence from across the room.

Looking for a new bestie with a bit of “tude”?

At least cats will ignore your texts for a legitimate reason. 😹

Available now:

🐾 Professional curtain assassins

🐾 3 a.m. parkour athletes

🐾 Emotional support gremlins

🐾 Lap criminals
