The Anawim Companions Society

The Anawim Companions Society At Anawim, we believe in more than survival—we believe in transformation. Individuals make their own choices in areas they want to improve.

In a safe, sober, and caring community, men and women rebuild from homelessness, poverty and addiction, finding dignity, purpose, and a path to lasting change. Not counting our residential program, each month we serve approximately 250 lunches, 120 dinners, 90 showers and 100 loads of laundry. Those numbers simply reflect our response to the basic needs of the homeless and those living in poverty.

What we provide, above all, is a safe home for people to come and enjoy something that is often missing in their lives; the experience of a loving family. By talking to our guests, we explore what they would like to do and what they need to do. Individuals then discover how Anawim House can help them explore and achieve their goals. We work together making meals, cleaning up after a meal, working in the garden or just playing a game of cards. Anawim promotes personal growth, going to twelve step programs, seeking professional help, furthering education or returning to the work force. We just help guide and support them in that process. Anawim shows people how to live in a loving, caring spiritual environment. Our goal is to give them the tools they need to take what they learn from our home and then apply it in their own lives.

You did it – and then some!

Because of your generosity, the Spring Clean Laundry Campaign has raised $20,169 toward an original $18,000 goal.

That means the six new machines for Anawim’s community laundry are fully funded, there is a small buffer to help with related costs, and the only free, drop‑in community laundry of its kind in Victoria will soon be back up and running.

Residents and drop‑in community members will once again have a safe, supervised, substance‑free place to wash and dry their clothes and show up to work, appointments, and community in clean clothes, with dignity.

The new machines have already been purchased, and installation is planned for early June. We cannot wait to share photos and an update once they are in place.

Thank you for giving, sharing, and cheering this campaign on. You helped make a fresh start possible, load by load.

We are so close.

Thanks to incredible generosity over the last few weeks, our Spring Clean Laundry Campaign has already reached $17,000 of our $18,000 goal.

That means there’s just $1,000 left to fully fund the new machines for Anawim’s community laundry – the only free, drop‑in community laundry of its kind in Victoria.

If you’ve been thinking about giving, now is the perfect moment to help push us over the finish line before the long weekend.

Will you help us close the final $1,000 and finish this campaign strong?

We’re grateful to share a meaningful partnership with the Ruez Room in Sidney—a used clothing store committed to sustainability, and supporting community through reuse.
Through their work, textiles are diverted from landfills and redirected back into community—supporting shelters, individuals in need, and local initiatives like ours.
At Anawim, clothing is more than just clothing.
It’s dignity.
It’s warmth.
It’s a fresh start.
This partnership helps ensure that the people we serve have access to clean, quality clothing—while also caring for our environment in a tangible way.
It’s a beautiful example of what happens when community, compassion, and sustainability come together.
Thank you, REUZ, for walking alongside us in this work.

In just one week, this community has helped raise $10,186 toward Anawim’s $18,000 Spring Clean Laundry goal!

Thank you to everyone who has already given to help replace the aging machines in Anawim’s community laundry—the only free, drop‑in community laundry of its kind in Victoria.

This week, our last remaining machine finally died. We now need to urgently purchase new machines so people who are unhoused or living in unstable situations still have a safe, supervised place to wash and dry their clothes.

If you have been thinking about giving, now is a very good time to help us close the gap.

And if you have already given, one of the best ways you can support the campaign is to share it with a friend, your workplace, church, or community group and invite them to join you.

We’ve done the math.

Over 15 years and 17 loads a day, every load of laundry at Anawim’s community laundry costs less than twenty cents in capital.

Your Spring Clean gift can provide:
– $50: about 260 loads of clean laundry
– $100: about 520 loads
– $250: about 1,300 loads
– $3,000: more than 15,800 loads (one full machine)

Every load is another chance for someone to show up clean, prepared, and with dignity.

Help us raise $18,000 by May 20 to replace six aging machines at Anawim.

The thing that almost cost Andrew his new job wasn’t his work ethic.

It was his laundry.

Living outside, he had no washer, no dryer, and nowhere safe to wash his work clothes. Showing up to shifts in the same dirty clothing could have cost him the chance to get indoors.

Anawim’s laundry room changed that.

This spring, we’re raising $18,000 by May 20 to replace six aging machines in the only free, drop‑in community laundry in Victoria.

Your Spring Clean gift helps fund hundreds of loads of clean laundry for community members like Andrew.

Will you help?

Volunteers Wanted - Help Us Build a Foundation of Dignity 🛠️

At Anawim, we know that a structure is only as good as its foundation—and that applies to both our buildings and the lives being rebuilt within them. Our homes are more than just shelter; they are substance-free sanctuaries where men and women find the stability to begin again.

The condition of a space speaks volumes. When we keep our homes well-maintained, we send a clear message to our guests: You matter, you are safe, and you are worth it.

Our high-use buildings are busy places of healing, and we need extra hands to keep them thriving. We are looking for Maintenance Volunteers to help with:

Minor repairs & troubleshooting
Painting, patching, and carpentry
Outdoor maintenance and gardening

Whether you're a skilled tradesperson or a handy DIYer, your time helps us stretch donor dollars and keep our focus on recovery and restoration.

Can you help us keep our spaces strong? www.anawimsociety.ca/volunteer-recruitment
