Most riders know the rule. Some skip it on short trips.
All the gear, all the time: helmet, jacket, boots, even for a 10-minute ride.
The distance doesn't change what happens if something goes wrong.
What's the one piece of gear you never leave without?

The average age of a motorcyclist injured or killed in a B.C. crash is 46.
Many riders have years of experience.
Experience matters but it doesn’t remove risk. Staying alert and riding defensively still makes a difference.

Most motorcycle crashes in B.C. don’t happen on highways. They happen in intersections.
Six out of ten crashes involving a motorcycle occur at an intersection, often when a driver turns across a rider’s path.
Before you turn, look once for cars and once more for motorcycles.

Motorcycles look closer and slower than they really are.
A safe following distance helps give riders space to respond to wind, road conditions, and sudden changes.
When passing, leave plenty of room. More space usually feels right because it is.

The top factor in B.C motorcycle crashes is not speed. It's distraction.
🚴For riders: your phone is just as dangerous on a bike as it is in a car.
🚗For drivers: a glance down is exactly the moment a rider can disappear from your view. Eyes up. For both of you.

MYTH: Drivers often say, ‘I would have seen the motorcycle if it was there.’
FACT: Motorcycles are easier to miss, especially at intersections.
In B.C., about half of motorcycle‑involved crashes happen at intersections. Many occur when a driver turns across a rider’s path.
Before you turn left, take a second look for motorcycles.

Your has been sitting since October. Before your first ride:
• Check your tires, brakes, chain, and cables
• If anything doesn’t feel right, have a mechanic take a look
• Refresh your skills by practising braking and cornering in a safe, empty space
Winter affects more than your bike, it can affect your riding instincts. Take your time getting back on the road.

in B.C.
Small choices can make a big difference on the road:
• Wear protective gear and choose bright or high‑visibility colours
• Keep your headlights on at all times
• Choose your lane position so you’re easier to see
Motorcycles can be harder to spot, especially in traffic. Riding visibly helps others notice you sooner.

MYTH: “Going 10 km/h over isn’t a big deal.” FACT: 10 over isn't a big deal" is probably the most dangerous thing drivers believe. In the rain at 60 km/h, your stopping distance is ~50m. At 70? Over 65m. The road doesn't grade on skill. It grades on physics.
