Victoria Child Abuse Prevention & Counselling Centre

Victoria Child Abuse Prevention & Counselling Centre We do not take reports. For child protection concerns, contact the Ministry of Children and Family Development or your local police department. 💛

Mary Manning Centre (MMC) serves more than 200 children and families every year. We offer support to the child or children who were abused and all family members affected by the abuse. MMC staff work with families, schools, police and professionals in family services, child protection and community living services to ensure a coordinated, holistic approach to supporting children and families. We h

ave various programs tailored to give each client individual plans to help overcome the trauma of abuse. The Mary Manning Centre uses the client self-rating scale in conjunction with assessment tools to create a client-centered, collaborative individual treatment plan with individual goals. The therapist will review the plan and progress with the client to work towards your goals during the course of service. The agency makes its services accessible to all, and accommodates the needs of children and parents who have disabilities. For more information and contact please visit www,marymanningcentre.com

June is both Pride Month and Indigenous History month.

The Victoria Child Abuse Prevention and Counselling Centre provides service on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and we include the surrounding Indigenous communities of the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples represented by the W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip), BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin), SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout), W̱SIḴEM (Tseycum) and MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat) Nations. We acknowledge the responsibility we share to support the safety, dignity, and well-being of all children and youth, and to contribute to environments where they are protected, respected, and able to thrive.

VCAPCC is dedicated to supporting individuals of all identities and strives to provide a safe, welcoming space for anyone who walks in our doors. We support this philosophy by being advocates, by providing trauma-informed services and by offering prevention within our community. This month and beyond, we will continue to uplift the voices, experiences and successes of Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

A couple weeks ago, Doug & Grant from 100 Men Who Care Victoria visited our agency and dropped off this generous donation. We receive this donation after a member of our team delivered the winning pitch at an event hosted by this wonderful group back in February. We are so grateful and excited to receive this donation, and plan to use it to continue doing the important work we do here at VCAPCC. 💛

Did you know that millions of Canadians are feeling lonely? For day 2 of Mental Health Week in Canada, VCAPCC encourages you to choose connection and encourage others in your life to do the same.

Today, think about where you go to feel connected - is it a person, place, community organization? Identifying avenues of connection helps us feel like we can be more easily supported in times of loneliness.

We have compiled a list of community organizations in Greater Victoria that can be accessed for support and connection. Please comment and tag any that we might have missed! 💛

May 4-10th is Mental Health Week in Canada. Here at VCAPCC, we are taking the time to acknowledge this week and the importance of talking about mental health.

The Canadian Mental Health Association introduced Mental Health Week in 1951. Since then, this week has highlighted the importance of promoting awareness, reducing stigma and encouraging mental wellness.

This year’s theme is ‘Come Together, Canada’, which highlights the powerful role that connection plays in strengthening our mental health.

VCAPCC serves children, youth and families who have been impacted by physical and sexual abuse, as well as witnessing violence, and other trauma. To kick off Mental Health Week, we want to discuss signs of unhealthy and healthy relationships - this can be with friends, family members or romantic partners.

Comment below other signs of healthy or unhealthy relationships. 💛

April 6-12th, 2026 has been proclaimed in the province of British Columbia as “Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Week”.

This week offers a chance to reflect on the effects of childhood sexual abuse and the demographics most impacted. This proclamation highlights the important, protective factor of a trusted person in a child’s life that will listen to and believe their disclosure, as well as take the necessary supportive action.

Community education and clinical services are pillars in the addressing of childhood sexual abuse. The sexual abuse intervention program (SAIP) offered at VCAPCC and throughout the province of British Columbia is a critical component of support for children, youth and their families.

This week, and every week, we at VCAPCC reflect on the undeniable statistics of those who are impacted by childhood sexual abuse. In this reflection, we strive to create an environment where survivors of this experience and their families can come to heal. 💛
