Greetings to all members of the Victoria Branch on this the 69th anniversary of the accession to the Canadian throne by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The last year has been a challenging one for all Canadians, but it is my sincere hope that all our members have been weathering the storm and remaining safe and healthy. The Victoria Branch and Dominion Executives decided to put a halt to all meetings and gatherings in March 2020 in order to ensure that we were not endangering any of our members through spread of the COVID 19 virus or contributing to any public health outbreaks. This ban remains in effect for now and the foreseeable future. As a result we did not hold our Annual General Meeting in January as is the custom. The first order of business once we are able to meet again will be to hold this AGM and renew our slate of executive members. It is my sincere hope that the slate that was elected in January 2020 will agree to remain on until January 2022.
The COVID virus has even unfortunately affected the Royal Family, with HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duke of Cambridge testing positive earlier in the year. Fortunately, they both had mild cases from which they recovered. We are extremely grateful that neither HM The Queen nor HRH The Duke of Edinburgh have been exposed at their advanced ages. The Queen's words of compassion and encouragement in her Christmas message remain an inspiration and example to us all. In that vein, we have two very important royal anniversaries on the horizon:
- 10 June 2021 will mark the 100th birthday of the Duke of Edinburgh. Hopefully, the Branch will be able to hold an appropriate event to mark this milestone.
- 6 February 2022 will mark the Platinum Jubilee of HM The Queen. The Executive will be discussing plans for ways that we in Victoria can celebrate this spectacular and unique achievement. Any suggestions for what members would like to see can be addressed to yours truly for consideration.
I would also like to take the opportunity to encourage people to renew their memberships. I regret that we have not been able to hold the events we would like, but that will change once we have put this pandemic behind us. Finally, I would like to welcome some new members:
- Sabrina Dzafovic
- Patrick McGaw
- Moshe Appel
- Della Mae Johnston
- Carolyn Cooper
- Michael Woo
Yours in loyalty,
Gene C. Fedderly, CD, RCN (Retd)
Branch Chairman
