Social Media Community Guidelines & Rules of Engagement

For all BC Transit accounts the conversation and content is family-friendly. We encourage everyone to discuss and share openly with us, and we value the opinions and ideas that are put forward. However, to ensure that everyone feels comfortable to collaborate, and to uphold a positive environment, we expect that everyone follows our Rules of

Engagement when interacting with BC Transit social media accounts. We ask that our community be courteous, honest and friendly towards us and one another. Please do not use this as a place to release your frustrations – we are here to help, and constructive conversation is the best way to achieve this. You can expect that your post will be removed if it:

- Violates the law – be it local, provincial, national or international. Your post will also be deleted if it encourages illegal activity in any way.
- Violations of the law include, but are not limited to, posting copyrighted materials, impersonation, harassment, or abusive behaviour.
- Contains offensive, hateful or indecent language of any kind, or makes unproven allegations against individuals or organizations. We are here to engage in respectful dialogue.
- Constitutes spam or marketing. Our page is a place to talk BC Transit – not to promote your business.
- Violates anyone’s personal privacy, or is misinforming.
- Is clearly way off-topic. We’re here to talk about public transit and BC Transit.
- Contains long embedded URLs or excessive links.
- Is in any way in violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
- While we hate to do it, we reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to suspend, and/or permanently block users that clearly neglect or violate these guidelines. Questions from the media will not be answered through social media channels, and should be directed to [email protected]

When Flo wrote to Campbell River Council about handyDART, her words reminded us exactly why this service matters.

Her loved one Keith has lived in a care home for 9 years after a stroke left him wheelchair-bound. For over a year, he couldn’t leave. That was until they discovered handyDART.

Now, Keith visits family, gets to appointments, and feels more independent. As Flo puts it: “It seriously changed his life.”

Kind riders make for a safer bus! It’s that simple.

When we follow bus etiquette, we’re helping our community and transit operators get to their destinations safely.

Contactless debit, credit, and mobile wallet fare payments are now live in 30 Umo participating systems across B.C.! Here’s what you need to know before you tap and go:

• It’s convenient, secure, and quick. Just get on the bus, tap your card, and look for the green checkmark. ✅
• You’ll be charged the single ride fare, the same as cash with no extra fees. In systems with both adult and concession rates, contactless payments are charged the adult fare.
• Use the same card every time to automatically get fare perks in your transit system, like a transfer or a fare capped DayPASS.
• Tap one card only. Avoid card clash and remove your card from your wallet or separate your phone from an attached wallet before you tap.
• Cards cannot be shared between riders. The system will decline a card passed back from one rider to another.

On Thursday, May 14, we are invited to pause, reflect, and take part in Moose Hide Campaign Day, a national, Indigenous-led movement that calls us to stand together to end violence against women, children, and gender-diverse people.

At the heart of the Moose Hide Campaign lies a simple but powerful medicine: a small square of moose hide. You may see a BC Transit operator wearing a pin. These pins spark conversations, carry stories, and represent a commitment to ending gender based violence. To date, over five million moose hide pins have been distributed free of charge to communities, schools, and workplaces across Canada.

Find out where to pick up a pin and learn more at: https://moosehidecampaign.ca

Today, we honour Red Dress Day - a National Day of remembrance and activism honouring the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+).

You may see a driver wearing a red dress pin today, and all across the country red dresses hang silently in trees, windows, and gathering places. They represent lives that were stolen and families that continue to grieve, but they also represent resilience, visibility, and the deep spiritual strength of Indigenous communities.

Happy Earth Day! 🌍

Choosing transit is a great way to help reduce your environmental footprint and we’re working to make that choice even greener.

In 2024, BC Transit ordered 125 heavy-duty electric buses, with 25 already in service in Victoria. By end of 2026, up to 80 electric buses are planned across eight communities, from Kelowna and Kamloops to Nanaimo, Whistler, and the Sunshine Coast.

The future is quiet, clean, and already on its way. 💚 🚌
