Amy started with BC Transit in February 2010 as a Customer Relations Agent in a casual position. That role quickly became permanent, and Amy remained on the Customer Relations team until in 2013 when she was the successful applicant for a temporary term as the Operations Assistant. After completion of that term Amy returned to the Customer Relations team, this time as the Lost & Found and Uniforms Coordinator.

After enrolling in the Payroll Compliance Professional certification at Camosun College, Amy joined the Payroll team in 2016 as a Payroll and Benefits Coordinator. Since then, she has also completed a one-year term as the Payroll Work Lead and has supported as vacation relief for the Payroll Supervisor.

As one of five Payroll and Benefit Administrators, Amy’s day is always busy as she works with her team to ensure the accurate and timely processing of the full payroll cycle for approximately 1300 employees. Other daily responsibilities include the administering benefits for all eligible employees, responding to inquiries from BC Transit employees and a variety of agencies such as WSBC, Public Service Pension Plan and Service Canada. Monitoring leave balances, conducting audits, preparing and submitting biweekly & monthly remittances/invoices, and producing records of employment is also a part of her responsibilities.

Amy has loved the encouragement and support BC Transit has provided in her career development over her 14 years. Working across several departments has provided her the opportunity to get to know many of her peers and see firsthand the importance of the work each person does within the organization.

When Amy is not at work, she enjoys any opportunity to be outdoors, travel, cook and try new things! She love spending time with friends, family and her husband – who is also a BC Transit employee on the Dispatch team.

Jeff joined BC Transit after a rewarding career in the craft beer industry working in sales and marketing for a few local craft breweries here in Victoria. Jeff took his passion for the industry and became a Certified Cicerone ("Beer Sommelier") which allowed him to partner with chefs on beer pairing dinners and even put on educational master classes. After 11 years pursuing this passion, Jeff decided to pursue a new passion as his attention was grabbed by BC Transit’s journey to electrifying their fleet.

In December 2019 Jeff joined BC Transit in the Operations Division as a Regional Operations Manager. After a year and a half supporting the Thompson-Kootenay region, he was seconded to support the NextRide project for a year. During his secondment, a need for a permanent presence was established and the new role of Project Manager, Operational Implementation was formed. Jeff was successful and has continued in this role since. Today, you can find Jeff collaborating with employees in every corner of the organization. Whether it is a capital project that impacts Operations or an internal project for the Operations division, Jeff is there to ensure Operations has a voice and that their needs are considered throughout and beyond the project process.

With so many projects on the go, Jeff is at the forefront of a lot of change within BC Transit and he loves it! One of the things that he enjoys most about the organization is the constant drive to improving systems, technologies, and processes. Jeff is a problem solver and being able to support projects like Battery Electric Bus or the upcoming transit system in Tofino keeps him excited and engaged. Jeff’s dedication to excellence is exemplified by having been a part of teams that won Team Core Value Awards for three consecutive years – Regional Operations, NextRide and most recently UMO.

Jeff loves a good road trip! When he’s not managing his many projects, Jeff loves to spend time with his family and get out on the open road. They have recently been to Ucluelet and have an upcoming road trip to Leavenworth Washington and Mount St. Helens. Beyond Jeff’s passion for beer and electrification, he also has a keen interest in collaborating and helping others at BC Transit. He welcomes the opportunity to connect with others and share more about how our business works and impacts communities all across BC.

Nick joined BC Transit in our Finance Department in 2020. Previously, he had been involved in the health and fitness industry, participating in various sports, before obtaining his Bachelor in Kinesiology from Camosun College. Nick graduated in April 2020 and given the pandemic, had the time to think about his career direction. This led him to pursue a new and different route when he found the temporary Farebox Receipts Attendant position with BC Transit. This position allowed him to discover an unfound love of numbers and he has enjoyed working with them ever since.

In July 2020, Nick joined BC Transit as a Farebox Receipts Attendant. During this temporary position he also took the opportunity to help the Accounts Payable department whenever he could. This supported him in being successful in another temporary assignment, this time as an Accounts Payable Administrator. In November 2021, Nick became a permanent employee as an Accounts Receivable Administrator, followed by a Senior Revenue and Accounts Receivable Analyst position in August 2022. Nick has been a great example of utilizing internal experience to leverage opportunities to grow within the organization.

Since July 2023, he has been a member of the Capital team as a Capital Portfolio Analyst. His position focuses on the Capital Portfolio and detailed work with BC Transit’s Long Term Capital Plan, and associated reporting requirements for internal audiences. Nick spends a majority of his day analyzing, reconciling, and preparing data. He loves being able to take granular data and present it in a way that is easy to understand, review and present, all while finding new ways to innovate our processes.

Compared to his previous work experience, Nick has found BC Transit unique in its sense of camaraderie, and he loves the overall “can do” attitude in all the staff he interacts with. Working day-to-day with individuals that are all willing and ready to put in that extra effort to go above and beyond is something he is incredibly grateful for.

Nick is an avid cyclist, hiker, golfer and overall outdoor activity enthusiast! Outside of BC Transit, he keeps busy with all things outdoors and spending him time with his equally busy partner. On top of these pursuits, Nick has enjoyed working in finance so much that he is now back in school working towards the goal of becoming a CPA!

Nick started his career at 18 working for his father at their family’s exhibit design company where he apprenticed as a museum exhibit designer and graphic artist. Leveraging this experience, he attended the Vancouver Island School of Art, Camosun College and worked at UVic as a Marketing and Special Event Coordinator before making the jump to BC Transit.

In July 2019, Nick joined BC Transit as a Marketing Coordinator in a temporary role covering a parental leave. Before his contract ended, he was successful in obtaining a permanent position in the same role. Finally, in 2021 he was promoted to Senior Marketing Advisor, which is his current role! In this role, Nick’s day-to-day is spent answering inquiries and attending meetings where he provides guidance on how to approach issues where marketing is a stakeholder. He also plans and executes major provincial-level marketing campaigns and manages the daily marketing needs for the Victoria, Central Fraser Valley and Chilliwack systems. His favourite part of the job is when he is able to flex his creative background by writing, storyboarding, and directing on-set to help film, animate, compose music and so much more.

On top of his day-to-day duties, he is the co-chair of the People Experience Group, where he uses his marketing expertise to help socialize and champion many of the amazing cultural initiatives that make BC Transit such an awesome place to work and grow.

Nick originally chose BC Transit because of the great benefits and the belief in the important work that the organization accomplishes. He stayed because of the people. Nick has made life-long friends here and every day looks forward to seeing his wonderful and passionate team-mates and the chance to meet and connect with new people.

Outside of work Nick lives in Happy Valley with his partner Sarah, their twin 5-year-old girls (who just started Kindergarten!) and cat Tony. Nick has practiced martial arts for over 15 years, trains and teaches multiple times a week, and has accumulated several black belts in different Japanese arts including Karate and Aiki-jiujitsu. He has been learning Japanese for the past 4 years and travels there every year to train and enjoy the amazing food and culture!

The West Kelowna wildfire in summer 2023 was the worst in the history of their community, and over several weeks destroyed over 13,000 hectares of forest lands and led to the evacuation of more than 10,000 residents.

We and our operating partner, Transdev Canada, played a key role in supporting the evacuations of several long term care facilities in the area.

This is the story of the Brookhaven Care Centre, which our dedicated team evacuated on the evening of August 17 🚌💙

Leah has a long history with public transit and is the third generation in her family to work in transit. Before joining the BC Transit team, she worked for 9.5 years at Edmonton Transit in Transit Operator, Inspector and Charter Officer roles. Before entering the world of public transit, she was a pastry chef in restaurants and hotels cross Alberta and Victoria. Fortunate for us, Leah joined BC Transit in August 2017 as a Scheduler and a few years later, in March 2020, was successful as the Senior Scheduler.

In May of 2023, Leah was the successful candidate for a temporary opportunity as a Corporate Investigator. The team was thrilled to gain Leah’s cross functional experience moving from our Strategy and Public Affairs Division over to the Operations Division in this role. In this position, Leah’s day is comprised of reviewing incidents, accidents, customer service reports and hard drives for relevant Security matters. Our Corporate Investigators also review material from our operating partners throughout the province while building relationships with law enforcement agencies and government partners. Leah is looking forward to being adopted permanently into the Corporate Security family (as her manager would say).

Leah loves the variety of work that her positions at BC Transit have provided her. However, above all else she loves the people the most! In both divisions she has had amazing, supportive teams and is grateful for the professional and personal relationships she has developed.

Outside of work, Leah likes to knit, bake, and spend time with friends around Victoria and throughout the island. She also has a blast hosting a weekly trivia night at local pub.

In July 2020 Malcolm joined BC Transit as an temporary Accounts Payable Clerk. A year later, in July 2021, he was the successful applicant for a Senior Accounts Receivable Analyst. While in this position he was also given the opportunity as Acting Accounts Payable Supervisor while a colleague was off on Parental leave. This ultimately led him to his current role of Supervisor, Revenue and Accounts, which he has been in since August 2022.

In his current supervisory role Malcolm leads a team responsible for delivering on service level agreements for critical accounting services and the continuous review of processes and procedures to ensure appropriate internal controls to safeguard assets.

In his spare time, Malcolm is a freelance computer programmer and he utilizes these skills within BC Transit to dramatically improve manual processes. Prior to the Accounts Payable Automation solution, each week there were approximately 200 invoice files that had to be manually matched, merged and renamed. The process was extremely time consuming, boring, and no one on the team wanted to complete this! Using his programming skills, Malcolm determined that they could automate this task so the Accounts Payable team could make much better use of their time. Malcolm took his innovative idea through approvals, including a presentation to the Chief Financial Officer. Once approved, Malcolm worked with IT to implement the program, which saved the team several painstaking hours of doing the work manually. This program was used to bridge the gap until the implementation of Accounts Payable Automation and was successful in satisfying the needs of the Accounts Payable team.

Malcolm enjoys how much fun his positions have and continue to be! Through his career development at BC Transit he has been able to prioritize both professional growth and personal enjoyment. While there are daily responsibilities and work to action, Malcolm is always able to talk and joke with his team. Productively becomes easier for him when everyone is able to have fun and stay positive while getting the work done.

When Malcolm is not at work, he loves all things outdoors! You could find him playing soccer, out on a run, camping, sailing, or on one of the countless hiking trails BC has to offer.

Taylor joined BC Transit in July 2021 after working in the not-for profit sector on children’s charities and youth groups. Her initial role was as the Youth and Outreach Coordinator; a position that was established in conjunction with the launch of the Free Transit for Children 12 and Under program in September 2021. It marked the first time BC Transit had a role solely dedicated to youth outreach and Taylor was thrilled to be a part of shaping this new initiative!

In her current role as Youth Outreach Trainer, which Taylor moved into in June 2023, every day looks different! Taylor’s work ranges from visiting schools to engage with children about public transit, working in the office to schedule school visits, creating and improving our educational programs, training operators, and contributing to our youth marketing campaigns and youth website. However, her favourite days are when she is interviewing hilarious kids while shooting our kid-interview series.

What Taylor finds most rewarding about her position, and the youth program at BC Transit, is that they are both relatively new, allowing her to constantly generate fresh ideas and employ creative problem-solving techniques. She appreciates how the other departments within the organization have embraced collaborating with the youth team to make a more significant impact on the community as a whole. Taylor truly believes that children are the future and is proud that BC Transit recognizes their importance and wholeheartedly supports her team’s efforts.

Outside of work, Taylor fully embraces her role as a hockey mom in the winter and fastpitch mom/coach in the spring! She is an avid video game enthusiast, loves to face paint at kids’ events and birthday parties and obsessed with her dog!
