Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware as warm temperatures, gusty winds, and the risk of thunderstorms continue across the area over the next several days. Current forecasts for the Vonda area are calling for daytime highs near or above 30°C, with periods of strong winds and scattered thunderstorm activity possible heading into the weekend.

These conditions can rapidly increase fire risk, especially with dry grass, brush, and crop residue still present around the community and surrounding rural areas. Even isolated storms can produce lightning and strong wind gusts that may contribute to fast-moving fires.

Vonda Fire & Rescue reminds residents to:

• Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials
• Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass
• Keep water or extinguishing equipment nearby when working outdoors

Please continue monitoring local forecasts and alerts as conditions can change quickly.

🚫 BURN BAN IN EFFECT – TOWN OF VONDA 🚫

Effective immediately, a Total Burn Ban is in place for the Town of Vonda due to current weather conditions and elevated fire risk.

• Fireworks

CSA and UL approved appliances such as incinerators, liquid fuel barbecues, and camp stoves are still permitted.

05/26/2026

The Saskatchewan Spatial Fire Management System has rated today’s fire weather as EXTREME across much of the province, including our area. With forecasted warmer temperatures, low humidity, and mildly windy conditions, the risk of a fast-moving grass or brush fire is very high.

Under these conditions:

• Fires can start very easily from even a small spark or ember
• Dry grass and brush can ignite quickly
• Wind can cause fires to spread rapidly and unpredictably
• Open burns can escape control in seconds

We strongly encourage everyone to avoid unnecessary open burning and to use extreme caution with anything that could create a spark — including burn barrels, fire pits, machinery, ATVs, and discarded smoking materials.

Even a controlled burn can become dangerous when humidity is low and vegetation is extremely dry.

Please do your part to help prevent wildfires and protect our community, neighbouring properties, crops, and emergency resources.

🚒 Hydrant Maintenance Underway in Vonda 🚒

Vonda Fire & Rescue will be conducting our semi-annual fire hydrant purging and inspections tomorrow evening.

This important work helps ensure hydrants are functioning properly and ready when needed to protect our community.

💧 What you might notice:
During this process, some residents may experience temporary discoloured water. This happens when sediment in the water lines is stirred up—it is completely normal and not harmful.

💡 What you should do:
If you notice discoloured water, simply run your cold taps until the water runs clear. This will help flush out any sediment from your household lines.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we complete this essential maintenance.

If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

🚒 NOTICE TO RESIDENTS 🚒

Over the past little while, a few small grassy areas within town have been found burnt under circumstances that appear to be man-made and possibly intentionally set.

While these fires have remained small, this is something we are taking seriously. Dry grass and windy conditions can allow even a small fire to spread quickly and threaten nearby property, vehicles, or homes.

We are asking residents to keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour, especially around parks, ditches, vacant lots, and other grassy areas. If you witness suspicious activity, please report it to the RCMP.

As always, if you see an active fire or an emergency situation, dial 911 immediately.

We appreciate the community’s help in keeping Vonda safe. 💙🔥
