🚨 Deployment #2 is on the move! One crew—made up of members from Stations 17 (Milo & District Volunteer Fire Association), Station 19 (Lomond & District Fire Association), Station 21 (Carmangay), and Station 27 (Vulcan Fire Department) — is heading north to the Red Earth Creek area, taking over for the VCES crew already on the ground.

They’ll be working alongside departments from all across Alberta to support wildfire efforts and protect homes and critical infrastructure.

We’re proud to have them representing VCES. Stay safe out there, team! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒🔥

Alberta is facing a very dire wildfire situation. Over the past 24 hours or so, 3 new wildfires have been reported and multiple communities have been evacuated.

Almost the entire province is now under Extreme Fire Danger, meaning vegetation is extremely dry and this poses a very serious fire risk. Wildfires will be very active and will likely grow.

Today, the heat and wind will continue. Temperatures will climb into the upper 20s and low to mid 30s with relative humidity below 30%. Wind gusts of up to 40-60km/h will be a challenge for fire crews to contend with.

Thunderstorms will bring some rain and cooler temperatures to the province later today, but they will also be associated with strong wind gusts and lightning, which could increase fire behaviour and ignite additional fires. The wind direction is also expected to shift from southerly to westerly behind these storms, dictating which direction the wildfires will grow.

Crews have been working tirelessly to contain the multiple wildfires burning across the province. Communities to the north and east of any wildfire should be on high alert today and prepare for possible evacuations.

Vulcan County has issued a Fire Restriction due to the dry, windy, and warm conditions that exist and are forecasted. Due to the rapidly changing weather conditions and the fine fuel moisture content, Vulcan County may move to a Fire Ban with little to no notice.

🚒🔥High Winds Kept Emergency Crews Busy! 🔥🚒

Yesterday’s strong winds led to a hectic 27 hours for emergency services crews across the MD of Willow Creek and MD of Ranchland. A huge THANK YOU to our five fire stations for their tireless efforts in responding to four fires, six MVCs, one potential ice rescue, one smoke investigation and one property damage — your dedication and long hours did not go unnoticed!

A special shoutout to Vulcan County Emergency Services for assisting our crews with one of the fires and helping protect our community. To the AHS EMS crews, RCMP and Sheriffs who attended our scenes, we deeply appreciate your steadfast support of both our firefighters and residents.

And to the neighbors and local equipment operators who step up during fire events—you are the heart of rural living. Your willingness to lend a hand in times of need truly defines our community.

Stay safe, everyone!
