Good Morning residents of Vulcan!

Just a reminder with yesterday's snow fall, that you have until this afternoon to clear all your walkways. Not only is it a requirement of the Town of Vulcan bylaws, but if you're following the weather, the thermometer is supposed to plummet to -18C tonight which means that soft snow/ice is going to freeze hard overnight making cleanup tomorrow that much harder if you don't do it today.

Stay warm out there.

New Year, New Me, New Dog License. The town of Vulcan would like to remind all residents that yes, your K-9 companion does in fact require a dog license and it is now time to come on down and get your 2020 Dog License if you haven't purchased it for man's best friend already.

Some people might think this is an unnecessary hassle, but proper licensing means we can reunite your furry friend in case they are separated from you for whatever reason. This means we need up to date information on Fido or Sparky or Bob so that we can phone you or drop them off to you if they happen to get separated. Out dated phone numbers and physical addresses lead to unwanted delays in reuniting loving families.

Keep in mind that unlicensed dogs or those without current information will require kenneling until the owner can be found which adds unwanted costs to your time apart.

While we're on the subject of man's best friend, I'd also like to remind all citizens that if Rover is outside of your house or fence, he or she must be attached to you via a proper leash. This also means if your fence isn't properly maintained or strong enough (physical or electric) to contain Ralph, your are responsible for them being at large. While this may seem cute in cartoons for them to have a day on the town, trust me, your neighbours don't appreciate it and it is one of the biggest complaints I receive as your Community Peace Officer.

Failure to plan ahead is no excuse. Impaired driving is not cool. We want you all to be safe and responsible this holiday season.

Impaired Driving Awareness

This morning, officers from our Traffic Section conducted a Checkstop from 9:00 - 10:30 A.M. Many would think that impaired drivers would not be found so early in the morning but you may be surprised. Some folks get so carried away at the previous evenings festivities that they are still impaired the following morning.

Today we completed 130 Mandatory Alcohol Screenings, issued one 72-hour suspension, and met a handful of drivers who still registered as having alcohol in their system from last night.

Failure to plan ahead is no excuse. Impaired driving is not cool. We want you all to be safe and responsible this holiday season.

Good morning residents of Vulcan, with the piles of snow around town, I'd like to take this time to remind you that it is against Town of Vulcan bylaws to deposit snow and ice on any road way. Actually it is contrary to the HIGHWAYS DEVELOPMENT AND
PROTECTION ACT of Alberta as well. If you deposit any material on the roads, the Town of Vulcan can have it removed and have the cost charged back to the owner or residents of the property.
Please help keep our streets clear and remember to pile your snow and ice off of your sidewalks and off of the streets. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
