Our volunteer firefighters aren’t just neighbours helping out—they are highly trained professionals who meet the exact same NFPA standards as full-time crews. They don’t just show up when it’s convenient; they:

• leave family dinners at a moment's notice

• jump out of bed for 3:00 AM calls

• step away from their "day jobs" the second the pager sounds

These individuals are the backbone of our fire services, protecting over 80% of Ontario’s geography. 🌲🚜

This , we’re looking past the gear at the people behind it. To the firefighters balancing careers, families, and the sudden ring of a pager: We see the dedication it takes to serve your community at 3:00 AM and still be at your desk by 9:00 AM.

Thank you for the commitment it takes to balance both roles. 👨‍🚒

💧 Why has there been so much flooding this spring? Here’s what’s behind it:

This hasn’t been a typical season. At SVCA we love data, and the numbers tell the story.

• Snowpack water content was 159% of normal heading into spring
• Early March brought 22 mm of rain on top of rapid snowmelt
• March rainfall reached 298% of the historical average
• April is already sitting at 183% of normal rainfall

❄️The ground is already fully saturated, so there’s nowhere for water to soak in. All of that water had to go somewhere — and it did.

🌊 Streamflows in the Main Saugeen River hit levels you’d only expect once every 9.5 years
📍 In Walkerton, flows exceeded typical spring peak levels twice, nearly doing so again on April 16

The last time we saw a spring melt like this? 2018.

👉 Conditions like this increase the risk of flooding quickly. Please stay back from rivers and fast-moving water, and keep safety top of mind.
