Boozhoo WIFN Community Members!

Bkejwanong Giigdo Niinwag (Council) is requesting a Call Out seeking knowledgeable individuals to participate as Standing Committee Members for 2026-2028 Council Term.
Purpose of WIFN Standing Committees: To provide an opportunity for community members to participate in decision making processes affecting the community. Committees are authorized to oversee program developments, develop & recommend policies, procedures, and protocols for implementation, and help provide accountability for the stated goals and objectives of the program.

Committee Roles & Responsibilities:
• To ensure that the needs of the community are heard and addressed in program planning.
• Review and monitor the specific program work plans developed by the department.
• Review proposed/potential new projects and recommend implementation plans.
• Review research/reports on potential projects or changes to the approved program plans.
• Review materials provided by the program staff concerning the program.
• Ensure that any changes to the mandate, policy, or issues are reported to Council.
• Ensure that all recommendations and reports are provided to Council for their approval.
• Will monitor budgets and make recommendations.
• Committee members do not supervise staff (do not have authority over employees - including recommendations for hiring and firing staff).
• Other duties as assigned by Council.

Committee Member Roles & Responsibilities:
• Be familiar with events/issues that directly impact the community.
• Be familiar with community needs in relation to the specific area.
• Be familiar with WIFN Policies (including Human Resource Policy and Financial Regulations).
• Understand and maintain confidentiality.
• Attend all designated committee meetings.
• Notify the chairperson if you are unable to attend meetings.
• Declare a conflict of interest during meetings if/when necessary, according to the WIFN Conflict of Interest Policy.

Qualifications for Committee Members:
• Must be a member of Walpole Island First Nation over the age of 18
• Commitment to the promotion/awareness of the committee areas
• Expertise in the program area
• Interested in involving people to plan effective programs
• Applicant(s) must not be in arrears with WIFN
• For application to the Social Services Committee, one must not be a client of any of the
departments listed and not be in conflict as per WIFN Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Committee members will be subject to criminal reference check.
• Committee members will be required to sign an oath of confidentiality and code of
conduct.

Time Commitment:
• Most committees schedule monthly meetings.
• Some committees may be required to meet more or less frequently.

If you are interested in being a part of a WIFN Standing Committee, please fill out the attached application and return to the Administrative Receptionist at the Naaknigewgamig Governance Building by Tuesday, November 3, 2026 no later than 12:00 PM.
