Ember Fire Academy is coming to Teslin!

Ready to learn firefighting, build new skills, push yourself and join a rad all-ages group?

The Academy runs August 31 to September 4, 2026 in Teslin. Applications open June 15 and close July 13.

Open to people aged 16 and older, and all genders historically underrepresented in the fire service, including women and non-binary people.

Accommodations and all meals will be provided.

Wildland Fire Management responded to a person-caused fire this weekend in Watson Lake. Thank you to our partners at the Watson Lake Fire Department and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Yukon for a solid team response.

Every Second Matters
In an Emergency, Call 911

If you are experiencing or witnessing an emergency, dial 911 immediately. Do not call non-emergency lines, personal contacts, or post on social media for help during an active emergency situation.

Calling 911 ensures that:
-Emergency services are dispatched quickly
-Police, Fire, and EMS receive accurate information
-Help reaches the scene without unnecessary delays

If you happen to be in an emergency scene please stay clear and give responders space.

For your safety and the safety of others, it is important to:
-Stay back from the emergency area
-Keep roads, entrances, and pathways clear
-Follow all directions from emergency personnel
-Avoid gathering near the scene or interfering with operations

Emergency responders need clear access to:
-Reach injured individuals quickly
-Position emergency vehicles safely
-Perform their duties without obstruction

Your cooperation helps emergency personnel respond efficiently and save lives.

Today’s Emergency Preparedness Week reminder: help first responders get to you.

When seconds matter, clear directions and a visible address can make a real difference. Make sure your civic address number is visible from the road, especially at night. Keep snowbanks, brush, and other obstructions away from the sign.

You can also help by clearing the driveway, turning on outside lights, securing pets, and making room around the person who needs help.

Today’s Emergency Preparedness Week reminder: build or check your emergency kit.

In an emergency, you may need to get by without power, tap water, phone service, or easy access to supplies. Your kit should be easy to carry, easy to find, and known to everyone in your household.

A basic kit should include things like water, non-perishable food, flashlight, radio, batteries, chargers, first aid supplies, medications, important documents, cash, and pet or baby supplies if needed.
