Welland Fire and Emergency Services would like to congratulate Platoon Chief Dennis Tuck on his retirement after 27 years of dedicated service with the City of Welland.

PC Tuck began his career in the fire service in 1985 with West Lincoln Fire Department. He joined Welland Fire and Emergency Services in 1999 and served with the city before retiring earlier this year in 2026. Prior to becoming a career firefighter with WFES, PC Tuck served the citizens of Niagara Region as a primary care paramedic with Niagara EMS from 1992-1999.

PC Tuck was known as an extremely competent incident commander and a knowledgeable fire officer. His presence in the fire station will be missed. We wish PC Tuck all the best in his retirement.

This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower" which is similar to last year's theme. So we thought we'd end FPW 2026 by bringing this banger back out.

Know what items in your home use lithium ion batteries, charge them correctly, maintain them correctly, and follow manufacturer instructions.

Cogeco joined us at our Open House on Saturday,, September 26th. Check out their coverage of the event.

It was a great day with more than 400 people stopping by to participate in the activities we had going and to learn about fire safety.

We'd like to offer a HUGE thanks to those businesses and organizations that helped make the day a success. In particular we want to thank Black Sheep coffee for providing ice coffee, Sobey's South Pelham for the hot dogs, and Fort Erie Fire Department & Thorold Fire Department for loaning some props for kids to spray water at.

It's Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is "Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower".

Lithium-ion batteries are safe, but lithium-ion battery fires occur when batteries are not used correctly, not charged correctly, not replaced correctly, or are damaged in some way.

Some ways to prevent lithium-ion battery fires include:
-never over charge batteries
-always follow manufacturer instructions for use & replacement
-never replace lithium-ion batteries with cheap knock-offs. Replace with manufacturer approved batteries.
-store batteries in cool, dry locations

Today, firefighters from Welland Fire and Emergency Services, including the members of our Honour Guard, joined hundreds of other firefighters from across the province in attending the Ontario Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Toronto.

The Memorial honours firefighters who have died in the line of duty serving communities across Ontario. This year, 83 names were added to the Memorial. Their names will not be forgotten, and their sacrifices will be honoured for generations to come.

It's Fire Prevention Week October 4-10, 2026.

This year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower". It revolves around learning how to store, charge, use, and replace lithium-ion batteries and the devices & products that use them.

Welland Fire and Emergency Services will be out in the community this week engaging with people to talk fire safety. Look for us at Canadian Tire, Strive Niagara, Niagara College, The Farmer's Market, and out on the streets at various times this week.

WFES FIRE MASTER PLAN | What should fire and emergency services in Welland look like in the years ahead?

Welland Fire and Emergency Services is developing a fire master plan to help guide the future of these services in our community. The plan will identify strategies and actions to help ensure services continue to meet Welland’s needs, both today and in the future.

As part of this work, we want to hear from you. A community survey is now open, giving you an opportunity to share your feedback about fire and emergency services in Welland. Your responses are anonymous and will help inform the development of the plan.

Welland Fire and Emergency Services is proud to share that our new Platoon Chief Command Vehicle (vehicle designation: Car 4) is officially in service as of September 29, 2026.

This important addition to our fleet will allow our platoon chiefs to rapidly deploy independently ahead of other responding vehicles to major emergency events. They'll be able to conduct scene size-up evaluations and can direct incoming fire apparatus to ensure maximum effectiveness of our resources.
