While we officially have a few more weeks of summer to enjoy, on this last day of August, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible summer we’ve enjoyed as a community!

Thank you to all the volunteers and staff who worked so hard to host fantastic public events and and to the residents and visitors for helping make a vibrant and welcoming place to be. We are so proud to serve such an engaged community.

The Soulrise Music Festival is happening today at Ambleside Beach, with West Vancouver Police in attendance to support public safety. We’re asking attendees to keep the following tips in mind to help everyone have a safe and fun experience.

✅Plan ahead: arrange a safe ride home before the event starts, use the buddy system, and set a meeting point in case you get separated.

✅Take care of yourself: stay hydrated, keep your valuables and devices safely secured, and seek help immediately if you or someone around you appears unwell.

✅Maintain awareness: on arrival, note the exits, medical tents, and info booths, promptly report any issues of concern, and follow instructions of police officers and event staff.

The Public Safety Trailer will be temporarily deployed at Ambleside Park, 1150 Marine Drive, starting on August 28th, 2026.

This mobile monitoring unit supports public safety during community events and celebrations and can be temporarily deployed at other strategic locations to deter criminal activity or, when necessary, provide video evidence to assist in criminal investigations. The PST enhances community safety, reduces crime, and helps keep a wonderful place to live, work, and play.

Police Urge Safe and Respectful Behaviour Ahead of Back-to-School Events

As the new school-year approaches, and students are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting new school year. For many Grade 11 and 12 students, this means participating in traditional grad events across the North Shore. In light of these celebrations, the West Vancouver Police Department and North Vancouver RCMP are providing guidance on celebrating responsibly.

Lift A Bus – Help Kids Facing Cancer

2026 North Shore & Sea-To-Sky Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast riders invite you to help lift the spirits of children & families facing cancer, while we lift a bus!

Cops for Cancer Riders from West Vancouver Police, North Vancouver and Whistler RCMP will be at Park Royal Friday August 28, 2026, from 11am to 2pm, training and fundraising for the 2026 Tour de Coast. Meantime, two longtime tour supporters will be on hand to give an uplifting salute to the kids we fundraise for, and the tour riders working hard to support them.

On Friday at Park Royal, in the Parking Lot along Marine Drive north of the BEEM Credit Union (formerly Blue Shore), Mitchell’s will bring a 70-ton Rotator Tow Truck to lift a 16,500 kg Lynch Bus into the air as you donate in support of our cause.

All donations help the Canadian Cancer Society in fund vital Pediatric Cancer Research, and support programs including world renowned Camp Good Times in Maple Ridge. Cops for Cancer tours in British Columbia have raised over 54 Million dollars since their inception 26 years ago. Lynch Bus Lines has generously donated use of a 54-passenger bus for team transport during the Tour de Coast since 2023. Mitchell’s Towing has generously supported North Shore and Sea-to-Sky Cops for Cancer Riders for 14 years.

What an incredible week!

The WVPD Canoe Family was honoured to participate in the 25th anniversary of the Pulling Together Canoe Journey, joining 11 other canoe families on a week-long paddling event dedicated to enhancing understanding, trust, and respect between Indigenous Peoples and public service agencies.

Our journey took us from Agassiz, in the traditional territories of the Sts’ailes First Nation, through Kwikwetlem First Nation territory, before concluding in the traditional territory of the Tsawwassen First Nation. It was a wonderful experience of sharing stories, honouring traditions, and learning together.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us along the way, our generous host nations, and the Pulling Together Canoe Society for organizing such a meaningful event.

The West Vancouver Police Department is pleased to share that our very own Constable Rebecca Mair is performing with the Vancouver Police Pipes and Drums at the 2026 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Military tattoos are a time-honoured tradition that began in the 17th century, when pipers and drummers signaled the evening curfew for military members. Over the centuries, they have evolved into musical and cultural celebrations, the most prestigious of which is The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Throughout the month of August, upwards of 230,000 spectators are treated to performances by the best military bands from around the world, set against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Augmented by military flyovers and fireworks displays, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an impressive showcase of fine-tuned precision, international camaraderie, and musical excellence.

Congratulations, Cst. Mair, and thank you for proudly representing the West Vancouver Police Department on the world stage!

Chief Constable Tom Wolff von Gudenberg is pleased to announce the appointment of Staff Sergeant Mike Ashcroft as Inspector with the West Vancouver Police Department.

Inspector Ashcroft joined the WVPD in March 2005, serving in Patrol as a constable and corporal, as a sergeant and staff sergeant leading the Major Investigations Team, as the WVPD Intelligence Officer, and as the Divisional Staff Sergeant in charge of the Operational Support Section.

He has also served in several joint RCMP-municipal integrated teams, including the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team, the Integrated Gang Task Force, and as the NCO in charge of the Integrated First Nations Unit in North Vancouver, for which he received a Chief Constable’s Commendation for outstanding leadership.

Inspector Ashcroft holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia. In 2020, he received Dalhousie University’s Bruce MacPhail Award for Academic Excellence in the Police Leadership Program, recognizing the exceptional academic and leadership qualities that have defined his career.

As a long-time North Shore resident, Inspector Ashcroft looks forward to serving his community in his new role.

Youth Injured in E-Dirt Bike Incident in West Vancouver

Today, August 12th, 2026, at 5:50 p.m., the West Vancouver Police Department responded to a call of a rider injured in an e-dirt bike collision in West Vancouver.

The rider, a youth, was transported to Lions Gate Hospital by Emergency Health Services. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is currently on scene conducting an investigation.

“The West Vancouver Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in establishing the events leading up to this collision, says Suzanne Birch, spokesperson for the West Vancouver Police Department. “Any witnesses to, or footage of, an e-dirt bike rider in the area surrounding 30th Street and Mathers Ave between 5 p.m. and 5: 20 p.m. is asked to call 604-925-7300 and quote file #26-8462”.

West Vancouver Police were pleased to partner with Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 1 for Summer Lights in English Bay.

It was a wonderful night to be out on the water, celebrating the best this city has to offer! WVPD officers provided policing support and helped promote public safety on the water by ensuring the safety exclusion zone around the fireworks barge, enforcing the 5-knot speed limit for vessels, and providing education related to boating safety.

As we enjoy the final stretch of summer, WVPD reminds all boaters to put safety first:
