This past weekend some of our Westlock County Fire Services members along with members from the Town of Westlock Fire Department, Barrhead County Fire Services and Thorhild County Emergency Services completed the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Crew Member Course taught by the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service WUI Team.

During this time members were learning practical skills to help protect homes and communities when wildfires threaten. Some of the skills they learned were setting up pumps and sprinkler systems to help protect homes, assessing properties and deciding how best to protect them from an approaching wildfire and learned safe and effective ways to fight wildfires around homes and other structures.

We are so proud of the commitment our members show in continuing to enhance their skills and knowledge to assist and give back to the community.

We appreciate the support of the community in allowing our members complete this LIVE training in the community, the other agencies for joining us and the Lesser Slave Lake WUI Team for sharing their knowledge.

Supervise and extinguish all fires during windy dry conditions. If you are burning or conducting hot work (gas torch, grinding, cutting etc...) you SHALL have water, fire blanket and extinguishing equipment handy and ready.

Westlock County urges everyone to use extreme caution when working or driving in grassy areas, be mindful of hot exhaust and keep vehicles clean and free of debris as smoldering debris can fall off and start fires.

Always know your location and Dial 911 for any emergency!
