This week marks CMHA Mental Health Week, with the 2026 theme Come Together, Canada.

Here in Whistler, we know what it means to lean on each other — whether it’s on the mountain, in the hall, or on a tough call. Firefighters carry the weight of what we see on the job: the hard days, the close calls, and the moments that stay with you long after the siren stops.
But we don’t carry it alone. Our strength comes from the crew around us, the shared trust, and the quiet understanding that it’s okay to not be okay.
This week, let’s make “Come Together” more than just a theme. Reach out to your brothers and sisters. Check in on the ones who seem fine, and the ones who don’t. A quick conversation in the bay, a coffee after shift, or a honest “how you doing?” can change everything.
We show up for our community every day. Let’s make sure we show up for each other too.
You’re part of the Whistler Fire family — and we’ve got your back. 💙

🚒🐾 Happy Ending on the Ice – Dog Rescue Success!

Today, Whistler Fire Rescue responded to a call about a pup who had fallen through thin ice on Alta Lake.

Thanks to the quick-thinking owners who immediately called 911 and stayed back (exactly the right thing to do – never risk your own safety on unstable ice!), our crew was able to deploy swiftly, reach the dog safely, and bring this chilly little adventurer back to dry land and his relieved family.

The dog is doing great – a bit cold and shaken, but already wagging that tail again!

A huge shout-out to the owners for doing everything right, and a reminder to everyone: thin ice is no joke. Keep pets on leash near frozen water and always call us if something goes wrong – we’ve got the training and gear to handle it safely.

Another great save for the team – and the best kind of call: one with a happy reunion. ❤️

🚒❄️ Ice Rescue Training – Staying Ready for the Unexpected

As the cold weather sets in and the lakes freeze we practice our ice rescue skills in full immersion suits. Even in frigid conditions, we train ice rescue techniques to be prepared if someone falls through.

But here’s the truth: the BEST rescue is the one we never have to perform.

Thin or unstable ice is extremely dangerous – it can look solid but give way in seconds. Snow cover hides weak spots, currents under the surface weaken ice, and temperatures fluctuate quickly in Whistler.

Please:
❌ Never venture onto frozen lakes or ponds without knowing the ice thickness (minimum 10-12 cm / 4-5 inches for a single person, much more for groups).
❌ Keep kids and pets leashed and close when near frozen water.
❌ If you see someone (even pets) fall through – call 911 immediately, do NOT attempt to rescue yourself.

Prevention and education save lives. Stay off the ice unless it’s absolutely safe, and let us handle the risky stuff.
