We're ready Whitby! All month long Whitby Caremongers have been collecting food and directing it to food banks, but this is the big one! The Great Whitby/Brooklin Food Drive! June 20th 10:30 to 3:30. We need everybody who is able to help. Make donations, share our posts, talk to friends and neighbors about the needs that are going unmet in our community. We know we can feel every shelf of every participating food bank because we've done it before.

We believe we can do it again with your help.

Committee of the Whole – June 8

Much of tomorrow night's agenda focuses on transportation and planning matters.

🚦 Traffic Calming Policy
Council will be considering a new town-wide Traffic Calming Policy. This is an important piece of work because it establishes a consistent process for evaluating speeding concerns and traffic calming requests across Whitby. Residents often ask how roads are selected for measures such as speed humps, and this policy is intended to provide a clear framework. I think there are still some challenges with it, but I also think it is a necessary step.

🚸 Rosedale Drive Traffic Calming Request
There is also a motion requesting a traffic review on Rosedale Drive between Harding Street and Dovedale Drive. The motion asks staff to review vehicle speeds, traffic volumes, pedestrian activity, and consult with residents before reporting back with recommendations.

Despite the motion, the likely outcome will be for this to be considered with other requests pursuant to the traffic calming policy that is already on the agenda.

🚲 Durham Meadoway
Council will consider funding Whitby's share of the preliminary design work for the Durham Meadoway, a proposed active transportation corridor connecting Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa. Within Whitby, the route would connect existing trails, parks and conservation areas while improving east-west connectivity.

πŸ—οΈ 121 John Street East
A zoning application to remove a holding provision at 121 John Street East is also on the agenda. This is generally a technical planning step that allows a previously approved development to move forward once required conditions have been satisfied.

πŸ’° Infrastructure and Long-Term Planning
Staff will also provide updates on the Town's Asset Management Plan and future intersection improvements at Dryden Boulevard and Civic Centre Drive/Brookwood Boulevard. These reports focus on how we plan, maintain and fund infrastructure over the long term.

As always, residents can watch the meeting live through the Town of Whitby website. If there is an item that affects you directly and you would like to share your views, opportunities to delegate or submit written comments are available through the Clerk's Office or you can email me at [email protected]

I will post updates following the meeting on any decisions that may affect Centre Ward residents.

Today, we honour the incredible bravery of the Canadian soldiers who stormed Juno Beach on D-Day. Their sacrifice shaped our nation and the world. We will never forget. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Good Morning! Whitby has so many good people and beautiful spaces. This is just a friendly reminder.
