Social Solutionz is a member driven club and learning program inspired by my son, Michael and his friends in Durham Region, along with his fellow students at a private learning centre in Toronto, Ontario. Our Social Skills training program has been designed to coach and assist our members in honing and maintaining their communication and socialization skills through guided instructional enrichment
via teaching modules, group role playing exercises, and co-operative interaction. One of our main objectives is to increase competence and knowledge in a wide range of areas, such as current events, conversational topics/skills, active listening, Internet/cyber safety, conflict resolution, and other general topics. Our club is unique in that it is partially operated by our members, who provide assistance with various day-to-day tasks associated with our program, such as answering phones, filing, overseeing and updating the web-site, developing and executing “The Social Scoop” news letter, and assisting the team with planning and setting up our social events. Our members apply with resumes and are interviewed and given the opportunity to earn "Social Points" for prizes and rewards. Following the completion of a given rotation, members will experience follow-up evaluations and will then be able to and encouraged to apply again or for a different position within our program. This approach allows our members to be valued team players who can express and develop their skills within a stimulating, safe and encouraging atmosphere. Additionally, like many families with sons and daughters who have on-going challenges, I have had to assist in searching out, nurturing and maintaining positive connections and friendships circles. One of the more challenging tasks has been to find suitable, supportive socialization situations that mimic the normalasy that the rest of us without their limitations are able to enjoy. Social Solutionz strives to enable extraordinary people to connect and socialize in cheerful, comfortable surroundings; whether we are simply meeting up in the community or holding our own event.
