Calling All Chocolate Lovers! 🍫

Join us for a meaningful afternoon featuring a delicious plated lunch, decadent chocolate buffet, and chances to win exciting prizes through our raffle and silent auction!

It was a pleasure to welcome the team from TD Bank Group to The Social and recognize their incredible support of local families impacted by dementia.

Through a generous $50,000 pledge, TD has helped support the expansion of The Social over the past year, increasing access to this 100% donor-funded social and recreational program for people living with early to mid-stage dementia. This latest investment brings TD’s cumulative support of the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region to $80,000.

We are incredibly grateful to TD Bank Group for their continued generosity and dedication to supporting people impacted by dementia in our community.

We are so grateful for the incredible support of our local retirement residences and long-term care homes that take part in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s each year. 💙

While some join us on Walk Day others choose to participate through our Walk-in-a-Box initiative, bringing the Walk to their community. With support from residents, families and staff they often come up with fun and inventive ways to fundraise on our behalf.

A heartfelt thank you to the homes that participated in this year’s Walk-in-a-Box program. Together you helped raise an incredible $20,000 to support individuals living with dementia and the care partners that support them. A special thank you to the following homes for their participation:

We are proud to share our latest Annual Report!

This report highlights a year of growth, connection, and meaningful impact for individuals living with dementia, their care partners, and their families. 🫂

As the need for dementia support continues to grow across our community, we remain committed to providing support to individuals impacted by dementia. We are grateful to our staff, volunteers, community partners, donors, and supporters whose dedication makes this work possible. At the heart of our work are the individuals and families we serve, and through guidance, connection, and compassionate support, we strive to ensure no one navigates dementia alone. We are deeply grateful for the trust our clients place in us and for the generosity of those who support our mission.

Together, we are building a more dementia-friendly Durham Region where individuals living with dementia and their care partners feel supported, understood, and empowered.

ASDR is proud to be collaborating with Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences on this important initiative. Expanding access to VR‑SIM Carers is an exciting step forward in supporting families and caregivers across Durham Region. We’re looking forward to working together to support those living with dementia and the people who care for them!

📣 We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Alzheimer Society of Durham Region to expand access to VR SIM Carers, an immersive virtual reality program that helps families build skills and confidence when supporting someone living with dementia.

VR SIM Carers uses realistic 3D scenarios to help caregivers practice responding to challenges like apathy, crisis response, refusal of care, wandering and driving. Co designed with caregivers, the program uses short modules and simple controls, making it easy to use at home.

A study with 30 caregivers showed meaningful improvements in skills, confidence, quality of life and resilience. Caregivers were also able to complete the program at home with minimal orientation.

This collaboration marks an important step in bringing innovative dementia care tools to more families across the region.
