The Romance of the Captain and Winnie the Bear Mia Sokoloski has authored the first account of how a little black bear cub from White River, Ontari Winnie became the inspiration for author A.A.

This is the first story of the origin of Winnie the Pooh, the story of Winnie the Bear, a real bear cub from White River, Ontario, purchased by Captain Harry Colebourn of Winnipeg while his train stopped in White River in 1914 on his way to war in England. f White River. She wrote her story as a children's book, but it has been widely enjoyed by children of all ages. Mia has been recognized for by the Ontario Historical Society for her work in preserving history, she has been interviewed by the late Peter Gzowski on CBC Radio as well as spoken about the Winnie story on radio recently. She has attended events representing White River and the Winnie the Pooh connection. Mia made personal connections with the late Fred Colebourn (son of Harry Colebourn) and corresponded with the late Christopher Robin Milne in her quest for accuracy in the telling of this true "made in Canada" story.
