Our investigation found that redactions made by the Department of Health and Social Services were valid and personal information was protected under the Health Information Privacy and Management Act (HIPMA). Therefore, no recommendations were made.

Rapid technological change can challenge transparency, privacy, and accountability - topics discussed by Canada's privacy commissioners at this week's annual gathering. Yukon is a member and a voice for northerners.

Canada's information and privacy regulators came together this week to discuss how to safeguard transparency, privacy, and accountability in the face of rapid technological change.

Co-hosted by Philippe Dufresne, Privacy Commissioner of Canada and Caroline Maynard, Information Commissioner of Canada, the annual meeting brought together federal, provincial and territorial information and privacy commissioners and ombuds from across the country to explore:

-The use of new technologies, including , , and advanced data processing systems

- Cybersecurity and access to information

- Digital records and the evolving role of independent oversight bodies

- The interconnection of privacy and cross-border data flows

- and national resilience

A fairness complaint resolved through the Yukon Ombudsman.

"The Yukon’s ombudsman found the territory’s land lottery in Whitehorse had become structurally unfair, prompting the government to halt future draws until it can ensure the system complies with the Yukon Lands Act and its regulations.

The finding follows a formal investigation that concluded Energy, Mines and Resources is not meeting the intention of regulations under the Yukon Lands Act, which are meant to give first crack at lottery lots to people planning to build and live on them.

The investigative report, released in a Aug. 18 press release, says developers and some individual applicants sidestep those rules by having other people enter lotteries on their behalf. The practice, known as proxy use, has become widespread and increasingly blatant, according to the report."...
