Residents may notice fire crews and equipment in Porter Creek, Copper Ridge, and Riverdale on Monday, April 27 from about 9 am until 5 pm.

Training exercises will be underway and are designed to simulate real-world situations for firefighters. The public is asked to give crews space to train safely.

The Whitehorse Fire Department is partnering with the Yukon Fire Marshal’s Office, volunteer fire departments, Yukon Wildland Fire Management, and other municipalities to enhance wildfire response capacity.

The focus of the training is on managing complex situations, specifically wildfires impacting communities to help crews be better prepared to respond.

This training also aligns with the wildfire response system in British Columbia, and could help improve how departments work together during mutual aid deployments.

The Whitehorse Fire Department is committed to protecting the city through collaboration, continued training, and preparedness.

The most entertaining storm warning we've read in a while - wishing a safe few days to our coastal neighbours as they ride this one out.

❄️ KETCHIKAN & METLAKATLA: Brace yourselves… Winter heard we were talking smack. ❄️

A Winter Storm Warning is rolling in Tuesday with 4–7 inches of snow, which means we’re about to experience:
• Snow
• Rain
• Snow pretending it’s rain
• Rain pretending it’s snow
• And at least one Subaru in a ditch wondering where it went wrong.

South Tongass, North Tongass, and Annette Island ferry-area folks — congratulations, you’ve unlocked “extra fun driving mode.”

If you must be on the roads tomorrow:

🍫 Bring snacks
🧠 Bring good life choices (rare, but we believe in you)

Also, please remember:

We are assisting at this new wildfire, being actioned by ground crews and helicopter bucketing. Thanks to the observant callers who notified WFM so quickly.

Update Friday, 5, 3:20 pm: The Grayling Creek fire (XY-024) was called under control yesterday around 6 pm.

An additional helicopter joined to provide more support in the afternoon. Today, one crew and one helicopter will patrol the area for any remaining heat.

XY-024 is still approximately 0.5 hectares, and about 1 kilometre away from the Alaska Highway, roadway marker 1374.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time.

Wildland Fire Management is responding to a new fire. The Grayling Creek fire (XY-024) was first reported at 2:30 pm on September 4. It is about 0,5 hectares and in the critical zone.

Two crews, one helicopter, as well as the Marsh Lake Volunteer Fire Department, are currently working on containing the fire and putting it out as quickly as possible.

We will provide more updates as the situation changes.

Sharing from our neighbours to the west. This tragedy happened in just over 20 feet of water. We don't know all the circumstances, but do know that had the paddle boarder been wearing a pfd they could have been quickly found and perhaps saved.
