Chapter 16 of Yukon Final Agreements recognizes the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board (YFWMB) as “the primary instrument for Fish and Wildlife Management in the Yukon.” The YFWMB is an advisory body comprised of 12 members appointed by the Minister of Environment from six nominations by the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) and six nominations by the Government of Yukon (YG). With a man

date to address issues that affect all of Yukon, the YFWMB focuses on policies and legislation for sustainable fish, wildlife, and habitat management. The board consolidates the best available technical, traditional, and local knowledge through public participation, to make recommendations on management decisions to First Nations, territorial, and federal governments.

Ah spring, a beautiful and important time for new beginnings. Our May calendar feature this year is of a Dall sheep ewe and her lamb nestled close together. For more iconic Yukon species photos, check out Sonny Parker Photography!

From early April through to mid-June the Board would like to remind land users to please avoid alpine areas of known lambing grounds. Let's play our part to protect our sheep populations during this sensitive time period.

There is still time to check out an event at the annual Celebration of Swans!

We’re already over halfway through April, which means there’s only two weeks left in this year’s A Celebration of Swans. Don’t worry though, there’s still plenty of swan-related fun for all ages going on!

This week’s lineup includes:
• swan story time at the Whitehorse Public Library;
• a seniors' tea and artist demo;
• the always lively Swan Haven singalong;
• a hands-on nature sketching workshop;
• Qi-Gong inspired by the swans; and
• a talk and Q&A with this year's Swan Haven artist-in-residence Kim Roberts.
