Register now for Community Collaborators: An MTA Cohort Action Planning Program, taking place from November 4, 2026, to February 24, 2027.

This four-month program, grounded in the Moved to Action standards, will support museum and cultural heritage professionals in turning reflection into focused action that advances Indigenous self-determination in museum practice. In a small cohort, participants will work on a real organizational challenge, learn with peers, receive guidance from sector leaders and Indigenous Museologists, and develop a personalized, MTA-informed action plan.

Average commitment: 12 hours per month
CMA member registration: $495
Non-member registration: $695
Free, fully supported spaces are available for Indigenous and equity-deserving participants.

Professionals working in governance, operations, collections, engagement, exhibitions, programming, and related areas are encouraged to take part.

Did you know? City Hall is also home to a firefighter museum — likely one of the only City Halls anywhere with its very own firefighting museum inside.

Pictured here is Assistant Chief Dave “Buffalo” Taylor, one of the people who helps keep this unique piece of Dawson’s history alive.

The museum is supported by the Dawson City Fire Fighters Association, a non-profit made up of our volunteer firefighters. Rather than taking wages, our volunteers pool that money to support the museum and other fire department initiatives. Dawson City Fire Department

That also means when you hire the firefighters for a BBQ or community event, those proceeds go right back into supporting the association, the museum, and the department.

It’s a great example of local volunteers giving back to the community in more ways than one.

A big thank you to Buff and all of our volunteer firefighters for helping preserve Dawson’s firefighting history while continuing to preserve and protect our community today.

Historic Places Days is running for one more week! Join us at the Old Log Church Museum from Monday to Friday to get a chance to interact with our temporary exhibit on First Nations ministers. Learn about the legacy of Chrisitan Leaders in First Nations communities and try your hand at translation using the Takudh Grammar and Dictionary. This exhibit will only be on display for one more week, so come see it while you can!
