You have the right to refuse unsafe work.

If you have little or no training, or a task feels dangerous, trust your instincts. Refusing work isn’t about slowing things down, it’s about making sure everyone goes home safe at the end of the shift.

Workplace health and safety is a shared responsibility. For more information about your rights to refuse unsafe work visit www.wcb.yk.ca/refuse.

A big thank you to everyone who came to this year’s Partners in Safety BBQ! Together, we celebrated workplace safety with friends, coworkers and partners.

We’re looking forward to next year’s BBQ and we have our fingers crossed that it will be a little warmer!

Lockout/Tagout helps protect workers from unexpected equipment start-up.

During maintenance or repairs on mining equipment, stored or active energy can cause serious injury if it isn’t properly isolated.

Before starting work:
✔ Shut down equipment
✔ Apply lockout/tagout controls
✔ Verify isolation before beginning maintenance

Taking the time to lock out equipment helps keep everyone safe.

If you’re overtired at work from late nights, long shifts and little sleep, you aren’t just tired; you could be impaired.

😴 When you’re exhausted, your reaction time slows, your judgement slips and your risk of making mistakes increases.

Prioritize rest. Speak up when you’re overtired and look for signs in your team. Being fatigued can be just as dangerous as working under the influence.
