HVFD would like to congratulate Klondike Valley Fire Department Jeff Stephenson (far right) for dedication and commitment to the Yukon Fire Service. To honour his legacy, the Association of Yukon Fire Chiefs awarded him with the Hestia Award for his exemplary service. Congrats Jeff!!

It is with great sadness that the Hootalinqua Volunteer Fire Department shares the passing of one of our original firefighters, Jim Rear.

James "Jimmy" Rear was a proud citizen of the First Nation of Nacho Nyäk Dun, of the Crow Clan. He was a dedicated community advocate who passed away in Nanaimo, British Columbia, leaving behind his wife, Laurie.

As one of the founding members of our department, Jim played an important role in building the strong foundation that Hootalinqua Volunteer Fire Department stands on today. His dedication, service, and commitment to protecting our community helped shape the department into what it is today, and for that we are deeply grateful.

On behalf of all of our members, both past and present, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Jim’s wife, Laurie, his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Thank you for your service, Jim, and for helping build a legacy that continues to serve our community every day.

A huge thank you to the Whitehorse Fire Department for welcoming our crew this past Thursday. We truly appreciate your support, your hospitality, and your commitment to helping strengthen the fire service across the Yukon.

This session allowed us to train our Water Mapping techniques with the WFD and their Water Mapping Prop.

Last night, our HVFD crew spent the evening getting some hands-on practice with a variety of portable fire extinguishers.

From knowing which extinguisher to grab to using it quickly and effectively, these are skills that can make a big difference on emergency scenes.

These tools can be your first line of defense in case of a fire in your home. It's important you ensure your household has one in an easy to reach place, and your family members understand how to use them.
