The May Long Weekend is almost here! Who else has been counting down the days?

Camping?
🚙 Check-in online. You will receive an email on the day of your trip to check in online. This allows you to confirm or update your licence plate and the names of all campsite occupants.
⛺Carry a digital (saved to your device) or printed copy of your confirmation letter on you while in the park. This will be your permit.
🚗 No need to display a permit on your vehicle dashboard or campsite post. Your licence plate will be used to verify your permit.

Visiting for the day?
☀️Reserve your DVP up to five days in advance online at: https://reservations.ontarioparks.ca/

⚠️ Always check our Alerts Page before your visit for office hours, boil water advisories, closures, etc.: https://www.ontarioparks.ca/park/algonquin/alerts

After that long winter, we are loving looking out at our lakes and seeing *water* and not *ice*

Bring on the paddling, boating, fishing, and (eventually) swimming!

⚠️ Although our lakes are now 'ice-free', they are still 'ice-cold' and submersion in the water could quickly become a life-threatening situation this time of year.

Fishing trout in Algonquin Provincial Park this spring? Consider fishing lead free!

Did you know that a single lost sinker or jig contains enough lead to kill a Common Loon or other waterbird?
Instead of lead, choose alternatives that are readily available – such as bismuth, clay, steel, tungsten, or tin. Help protect our lakes and wildlife while enjoying the outdoors.

A few other points to remember:
-This year, Algonquin Park opened for trout fishing on Saturday, April 25th.
-Review the rules and regulations: https://www.ontario.ca/document/ontario-fishing-regulations-summary/fisheries-management-zone-15
-No live baitfish is allowed to be used or possessed within Algonquin Park.

Stay safe and good luck!

Spring is moving along here in Algonquin as the grasp of winter weakens. With the snow melting away and the opening of lakes, other signs of spring begin to appear.

Beavers begin work on dams and lodges after a long winter, spring birds like the Red-tailed Hawk and Ring-necked Ducks return to the marshes and creeks, and Moose enjoy the salty puddles along the highway after months of eating tree buds.

As the days go by, spring progresses faster and faster, and it won't be long until the first spring flowers emerge and the woods are filled with bird song.

🚗 Many Access Point roads are not yet maintained and may be in poor condition at this time. Use at your own risk and please drive with caution. Some roads remain snow covered and inaccessible, others require 4WD - see the alerts page.

🥾 Hikers should be prepared for wet, icy, snowy, and muddy conditions on trails. Whiskey Rapids Trail is closed due to flooding.

⚠️We remind everyone that spring conditions mean increased risk due to cold water, ice-covered lakes and unmaintained roads, trails and portages. Please exercise extreme caution when near rivers and waterbodies and stay away from open and fast flowing water, culverts and dams. Submersion in near-freezing water could quickly become a life-threatening situation.
