Community members are reminded that the deadline to submit questions and concerns for the upcoming Community Deputation is Sunday, October 11, 2026.

This is your opportunity to bring forward questions, concerns and topics you would like Chief and Council to address.

Community members may submit up to two questions, and all submissions must be received in advance to be considered for a response during the Deputation.

Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and Saugeen First Nation have released a joint statement following the October 2 court hearing regarding our longstanding Treaty claim.

We know that many of our Members have questions about the decision to leave the courtroom, and we recognize that some people are upset or disappointed by what happened. We want to reassure our community that leaving the courtroom did not mean giving up on our case. The decision was made to express our frustration with Canada's approach to our Treaty claim. The court case is continuing, and we remain committed to seeking the return of land and fair compensation for the Treaty promise that was broken.

We also recognize that Members want to know what happens next and have an opportunity to ask questions directly. Joint Council will be organizing a community meeting where Members can hear from leadership, learn more about the court process and discuss the next steps. We will share the meeting details once they are confirmed.

We encourage everyone to read the full statement below and to continue learning about the work being done on behalf of our communities.

This is an opportunity to raise matters that are important to you, your family and the broader community in a respectful and structured setting.

📝 All questions and concerns must be submitted in advance by Saturday, October 10, 2026, to be considered for a response during the Deputation. Community members may submit up to two questions.

This Sunday, October 4, we recognize Sisters in Spirit Day and the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

It is a day to honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, stand with families and survivors, and raise awareness of the ongoing violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls and gender-diverse people.

The red dress remains a powerful symbol of remembrance, loss and the continued call for justice, safety, accountability and change.

We encourage everyone to take time to learn, listen to and uplift Indigenous voices, support families and Indigenous-led initiatives, and reflect on the Calls for Justice.
