A Friendly Reminder for Event Season!

You may have seen recent news about provincial changes that allow municipalities to permit people to bring their own alcohol to certain outdoor public events.

At this time, the Town of South Bruce Peninsula has NOT opted into this program.

This means that alcohol is not permitted in Town parks or at public events unless it has been specifically approved through the appropriate permits and permissions.

While some municipalities may choose to participate, each community has the flexibility to decide what works best for their parks, events, and public spaces. In South Bruce Peninsula, the current approach helps ensure community events remain safe, enjoyable, and welcoming for everyone.

✅ For events that wish to serve alcohol, you are welcome to for a Special Event permit https://southbrucepeninsula.com/document/special-event-application/

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to support safe and enjoyable events throughout South Bruce Peninsula.

After more than 30 years of dedicated service with the Wiarton Salvation Army, Major Mary Millar is retiring, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of compassion, generosity, and community service.

For decades, Mary has been a pillar of our community, touching countless lives across the Bruce Peninsula and beyond through her unwavering commitment to helping others. Her kindness and leadership have provided hope, comfort, and support to families when they needed it most.

At a retirement celebration held on Sunday, June 7, South Bruce Peninsula Councillor Kathy Durst presented Mary with a plaque recognizing Council's decision to honour her extraordinary contributions with a commemorative park bench in Bluewater Park, Wiarton. The bench and plaque will serve as a lasting tribute to the positive impact she has had on our community.

Councillor Durst shared these heartfelt words:

"With our intent, that by enjoying a moment of peace and reflection, you will be reminded that no act of kindness is too small for those who are struggling."

Thank you, Mary, for your decades of selfless service and for making our community a better place. Your legacy of kindness, generosity, and caring for others will continue to inspire generations to come. We wish you all the best in your well-deserved retirement.
