Ogimaa Ominika and Council, along with Wiikwemkoong, would like to extend their sincere congratulations to Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service - WTPS Chief of Police Ron Gignac on being awarded the prestigious Leadership Award by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

Chief Gignac, this distinction not only highlights your exceptional policing skills but also your dedication to fostering trust, understanding, and safety within our community and beyond.

According to our teachings, true leadership is measured not by authority, but by humility, respect, and the manner in which one collaborates with the people.

We acknowledge this well-deserved recognition and are proud to celebrate this achievement with you.

Yesterday was both a beautiful and busy day in the territory!

Along with attending the Wiikwemkoong Junior School Annual Pow Wow, Ogimaa also attended a remarkable performance by the OPP Golden Helmets in front of the Pontiac School.

The Golden Helmets are a precision motorcycle riding team made up of active front-line OPP officers who travel and perform across the province.

Everyone in attendance enjoyed the show and meeting with the riders after their performance.

The performance was dedicated to PC Marc Hovingh and Sgt. Brandon Malcolm, a Golden Helmets member, both of whom were killed in the line of duty.

IMPORTANT COMMUNITY NOTICE

Chief and Council have approved enumerators from Statistics Canada to visit Wiikwemkoong, going door-to-door across the community, in order to collect accurate census data for the 2026 Census.

Enumerators will be in the community between May and July starting this weekend and will carry official identification. All information collected is confidential and protected by law.

Please be receptive during these visits and participate in the census to help ensure accurate data from our community.
