Wishing all of our students a great first day back at school!

It’s always exciting to see our young people heading back into the classroom, reconnecting with friends and starting a new year of learning.

Be kind, be curious, and never stop asking questions.
The first day is a chance to be brave, meet new friends, and discover something amazing.
You don't need to be perfect - just be yourself, and that's more than enough.
A new school year means new stories, new learning, and a whole new YOU!
Smile big, walk tall, and let the world see your sparkle on the first day of school.

To our students, families, teachers and staff across Wiikwemkoong, have a safe, fun and successful school year. We’re proud of you and cheering you on every step of the way!

Well wishes this school year from Ogimaa Ominika & Council.

Congratulations, Linda on your Lifetime Achievement Award, Education!

Since 1990, Linda has poured her heart into early childhood education, beginning at the Wikwemikong Hub Centre and going on to help shape the programs, policies, and people that support our youngest learners. Her patience, vision, and commitment to our children and families have been immeasurable. Chi-miigwech for your dedication to our youth.

It’s been a busy week since the election. Let’s run through everything that’s happened.

✅Monday, we sat down for our transition meeting to make sure the work carries forward smoothly. We want no steps missed as we move to build for our generations past, present and future

✅ Tuesday, Ogimaa Tim Ominika met with Indigenous Services Canada to bring our community's priorities right to the table and make sure our voices are heard. More on this soon.

✅ Wednesday, Ogimaa Tim Ominika connected with our youth through meeting up with the youth drum group in the city and visiting a youth at cultural camp. Afterwards he also sat down with the project team handling our community’s long-term care home development. Progress is continuing and will deliver a home for our elders in the community.

✅ Thursday, we attended the Anishinabek Nation Evening of Excellence. It brought people together to honour the lifetime achievements of community members who have given so much to who we are today. We stand on their shoulders.

This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more updates!

Miigwech.

Today our Ogimaa spoke with our young community members at the Meshkoodayaang (Prairie Point) Youth Camp.

They are our future leaders. Here they’re leaning about our cultural teaching, our land and species at risk. This is another step forward in building the toolbox they will use in leading our community into the future.

Chi miigwetch to our Species at Risk team with our lands department along with Guelph University staff and students assisting with the camp.

Exciting news to share! We are pleased to announce some of the opportunities that will become accessible to Wiky members as construction on the new complex gets underway.

We're also glad to share that our independent auditor has confirmed that our investments are in good standing, including the purchase of the Edmonton Connect Centre.

The current tenants at the Connect Centre include:
✅ Loblaws City Market
✅ Great Canadian Liquor Store
✅ Edmonton Oilers Team Store
✅ CIBC
✅ National Bank

This investment is already generating recurring revenue that will benefit all Wiky members. These funds will be used to help address funding shortfalls from the federal government and provide a pool of resources to address off-reserve needs.

Please visit the Members Portal, where we will be posting more information about the Edmonton project, as well as the independent auditor’s report.

Thank you for your continued support.
