A healthy lawn doesn’t need a ton of water 🌱💧
Did you know that established lawns in our region rarely need more than 30 minutes of watering twice a week?
✔ Set a timer.
✔ Water only when needed.
✔ Water between 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. to reduce evaporation.
✔ Always obey City water restrictions.
A perfectly green lawn isn’t necessary to have a FireSmart property.
The area within 1.5 metres (5 feet) of your home is your home’s Immediate Zone—the most important place to reduce wildfire risk.
If you have grass in this area, keep it:
• Green and well-watered when possible
• Trimmed to ~3 inches
• Pulled back from structures where appropriate
Areas allowed to go golden will usually come back in the fall or spring
This simple balance helps conserve water while still keeping your home better protected during wildfire season.

Great job opportunity, helping make a positive difference in the community!

Every Drop Counts During Wildfire Season 💧🔥

When wildfire season arrives, water becomes one of our community’s most valuable resources.

Only ~1% of the world’s water is available as usable freshwater, making conservation important every day—not just during droughts.

In wildfire season, firefighting efforts can place greater demands on local water systems, making it even more important that we all do our part.

The good news?
Conserving water and FireSmarting your home can go hand in hand.

Over a series of posts, we’ll share simple ways you can:
💧 Save water
🏡 Reduce wildfire risk around your home
🌲 Help build a more resilient community

Every drop saved today helps protect our community’s future.

We Don't Waste Good Food
Do you want to be part of our latest collaboration with Central Cariboo Community Food Hub in an effort to reduce edible food waste and increase organic waste solutions!?!?
Emma and I have been hitting the streets of downtown WL gathering info from businesses and restaurant owners to see what people are doing with their leftovers.
A business doing ALL they will get a 'we don't waste good food' sticker for their efforts.
If more needs to be done we will help connect solutions for them to keep all organics out of the landfill to create food and soil for OUR LOCAL community!
Reach out to find out more...

This spring, before school let out, Columneetza Grade 7s were testing their knowledge of the Earth, its systems and so much more in the Earth Challenge competition.
They competed in a full day of friendly competition and games on everything from salmon to invasive species, there was air, water and waste, ecosystems and climate.
We can’t say enough about how rewarding it is to see young people engage in learning about the environment we live in right here in the Cariboo Chilcotin.
If you know a Grade 7, ask them about the Earth Challenge and the things they learned.
Their knowledge might surprise you! 🌎🍃💦🍄‍🟫

The wood waste chipping has begun!
We are lucky here in the Caribo to be able to divert our wood waste to the Co-gen Plant up the road.
We are also lucky to have Wood Scavenging Permits to collect free wood for small projects.
A couple things we should appreciate in our region as other districts struggle on how to manage this type of organic waste in a cost effective way.
Remember to separate according to what the attendant tell you because it does matter.
A large chunk of metal can put these expensive chippers down for days ...
And we cannot turn plastic into Soil..
Ask us if you are unsure :)
