Xatśūll would like to sincerely thank everyone who came out last night to welcome Archie Chantyman of the Lhoosk'uz Dene Nation and share a meal together.
Archie is on his annual 700-kilometre healing journey, walking from Lhoosk'uz to the former St. Joseph’s Mission School in Williams Lake and back. His journey carries a message of faith, hope, love, truth and reconciliation, while honouring residential school survivors and the children who never came home.
Thank you to everyone who came together to welcome Archie, share dinner and show your support along his journey

Our traditional laws reminds us to treat everything we take from the Earth with respect and to always give back—preserving balance and harmony for generations to come.

A group of 11 former BC attorneys general from across the political spectrum have released a joint statement calling modern treaties "a proven foundation for a more just, secure, and prosperous province."

As Reconciliation and self-government come under attack by the politically extreme, these one-time top law-makers for the BC Liberals, Social Credit, and NDP are speaking out in support of modern treaties.

"They establish clear rights and responsibilities for Indigenous nations, public governments, communities, businesses, lenders and investors,” they said in a joint letter released this week.

“They also respect private property and do not put ordinary homeowners’ or businesses’ private property at risk.”

The "news" that land will be part of a modern-day treaty with the Te'mexw Treaty nations caused a lot of thoughts for a lot of armchair policy experts recently.

But in this opinion piece we hear from a Victoria-area resident and advocate that Reconciliation is nation-building at a time when Canada needs it most.

And it's sound economic policy.

"At a moment when this country is being reminded how quickly an external relationship can fail, strengthening the internal ones is not a concession. It is nation-building," writes Robert Lewis-Manning.

Recent news that the three-decade treaty negotiations with the Te'mexw Treaty Association (Beecher Bay (SC’IȺNEW̱), Malahat, Snaw-naw-as, Songhees and T’Sou-ke) would result in the return of some of their Victoria-area title lands to these nations caused a lot of pearl clutching by armchair experts.

Here, we hear from Victoria resident Robert Lewis-Manning, a Victoria resident and champion of ports, that Reconciliation is Nation-building at a time when Canada needs it most.

It's also sound economic strategy.

First Nations should not be treated as obstacles to be managed. They are rights holders, governments, partners, investors and builders.
