Please note that the ʔAkisq̓nuk First Nation offices will be closed on Monday, September 7 in recognition of Labour Day.

We are inviting artists and craft vendors to take part in the Columbia Salmon Festival on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Pre-registration is required.

Vendors arrive at 8:00 a.m.
Festival starts at 10:00 a.m.

This is an opportunity to share your artwork and crafts while spending time together as a community.

🔥 Prescribed Burn Planning in the CBT Block

ʔAkisq̓nuknik may notice BC Wildfire Service personnel in the community beginning September 4 as planning continues for a potential prescribed burn in the CBT treatment block.

BC Wildfire Service will be installing a rain gauge, and the site will be assessed as part of preparations for the Kootenay Akinkuku TREX Program, burning could take place, pending weather and fuel conditions from mid-September onward.

At this time, a prescribed burn has not been confirmed. If the site is ready and conditions are suitable, the burn would most likely take place during the last week of September, although it could occur earlier if conditions are favourable.

The work is part of ongoing fuel reduction and land stewardship efforts within the community. Community are also welcome to observe from safe zones and possibly participate if they have the proper training and field gear.

We will share additional information with ʔAkisq̓nuknik as plans are confirmed.

Recovery Ride – A Journey of Hope

We’re sharing an upcoming community initiative taking place on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Rob Louie of Yaqan Nukiy will paddle a sturgeon-nose canoe across the Canada–U.S. border at noon as a symbolic journey of recovery, remembrance and hope. The paddle honours the history of Ktunaxa people travelling the Kootenay River long before the international border was established, while also bringing attention to the impacts of addiction and overdose in our communities.

The Recovery Ride is being held in loving memory of Robert Louie III (1994–2025) and will also raise funds to purchase toiletries and self-care items for clients attending the Seven Nations Soaring Eagle Treatment Centre in Yaqan Nukiy.

The fundraising goal is $1,000.
